351w efi 90,000 mi "blown motor" in 97 f350
351w carberated, 2000mi "crate motor" in a 76 econoline 350
so my question is can i take the van motor and swap fuel systems and replace my motor with this newer block????? please help......................................
You can install the EFI heads, intake, plenum, onto the older block and pretend it's a new EFI engine easily enough.
If you want to retain the older engine 'as is' and you can fabricate, you can convert the carb intake to EFI and go that route. I've done that several times now.
one thing you need to know, if its a pre 80 block, it will not have the block hole for the dipstick tube . they were in the front covers in the cars and in the side of the oil pan on the trucks
so is this as easy as unbolting from the very bottom of the efi package as a whole and putting a new gasket in place????, or am i going to have to piece by piece it, just so everyone knows i am a carpenter not a mechanic and this is my first major project on my one rig wich is also my work rig.......... Anyways im to the point where im ready to take the old block out and remount all the accesories to the older rebuilt carb block, and im just scared to mess something up with the efi
Is this "crate engine" a stock replacement motor or some hot rod build? You also want to know what vintage the engine is.. look for the block casting number down by the starter.
If it's a stock replacement then yes you can use it and it won't be a lot more complicated than then just swapping intake systems, you also have to swap accessory brackets and the flywheel/flexplate but that's about it. The EFI intake has to be taken apart to be removed/installed, but you're just looking at 6 bolts connecting the upper to lower, the EGR tube, and vacuum and electrical connections and then the whole upper lifts off.
that is a 1979 engine block. you will need a provision for the dipstick/dipstick tube. you may have to use the front cover off the engine that your getting. i dont know if it will clear the bracketry though
