motor advice needed

Hello everybody, I have a 64 highboy and it has 4=speed w/456 gears and the orig. 292 w/123,000 mi., My problem is when I get to 3000-3500 rpm it has a pretty good rattle dont know if it's the lifters or bearings?. Do I rebuild 292 or swap for 351 windser or ?.. And if a swap do they sell motor mount kits to go from front and back, to side mounts. Thanks everyone Rod

The after market mounts that work on the two wheel drives will mount the four wheel drives However you will need a new transmission to mate to the new bell housing the Windsor will use and add a transmission mount. the stock transmission in your 64 has no rear mount provisions.

I'll be waiting for ND to pop in and say there was no such thing as a 64 highboy...

If you look up Old Iron hi-boy on bing it has a right up on the early era's how from 59 - 72 had a almost straight frame and it was called a hi-boy but that is just what I read in that artical. And I would like to know how true it is? N.D. let us know, Thanks Rod

for some reason I'm remembering that 74 was the first year that the factory used the term hiboy.

High Boy is not Ford terminology, it's an enthusiasts term.

High Boy: Antique furniture term for a circa 1750-1805 chest on chest (dresser).

Hi-Boy: Hot rodders term for a 1928/32 Ford Roadster with the fenders/splash shields removed, exposing the body riding high atop the frame rails.

High Boy: Enthusiasts term originally coined for 1973/77 F250 4WD's. Some also call the 1967/72 F250 4WD's High Boy's.

I've never heard anyone ever refer to a pre 1967 F250 4WD as a High Boy...until now.

292's have solid lifters, not hydraulics. With 4.56 gears, at 3,000 RPM, that's about as high the engine should be revved.

Revving any higher than 3,000 RPM, is putting a terrific strain on the engine.

Back then, people drove trucks that were geared like this, no more than 50 MPH.
