Hi all hope you all find humor in what I found under my new (used ) Navi...
I went under to try to find the front end Clunking after work today... and as I was crawling in the snow under the vehicle I looked back and to my amazement I found a piece of an old storage rack in the place that my Rear Lower Trailing arm on the drivers side should be... Incredible I would have bought the truck anyways if he had told me about it.... but to not even mention it knowing i was buying the thing for my wife to drive my 2 year old daughter around in ??? Thats just too low.. Im going to try to get a good pic of it so you all can get a good laugh
WOW! If the previous owner hadn't had the gator very long it is possible that he didn't even know about it. Sounds like you need at least one new trailing arm. Make sure you thouroghly check the rest of them and make sure that they don't need to be replaced. I am in the process of making my own lower trailing arms and track bar since the stock pieces were garbage. I bought some aftermarket uppers on ebay for $180 shipped, which is much better than buying from Ford or rolling the dice on a junkyard part that might show up just as bad as the arm you pulled off.

Oh he knew about it he had the Gator for about 5 years.... Thats what friends are for ! but no problem I found it before it found me..
After purchasing my 00 in upstate ny and driving it down to eastern Pa about 140 miles of back roads I rolled into my local ford dealership to get an inspection sticker for PA. My buddy is a mechanic there. Among other things which were less obvious he found bondo in the rim to "fix" where it had cracked and when i said ill just drive it home he said he wouldnt let me because of how far gone the ball joint was on the right side. Im still looking to replace the wheel and am driving on the spare right now but this thing should have never made it back to pa in it condition. funny thing is when i drove it I felt a woble up front but figured it to be a out of balence or maybe even an out of round tire never in a million years would i expect some to call a truck safe and great daily driver that they knew had what turned out to be a shattered rim. bottom line be very careful when buying any truck used. I know once i get through all the gremlins in mine it will be one of the great trucks i have ever owned. but Im over 6k deep and the service engine light was flashing today on the way up the hill.
Can someone please explain to me how to post pix on here
You have to upload the image to a site like Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and copy the link for the photo. Then back here in your message window click the square yellow icon right above the text box. In the new window paste the link, and after you submit the new reply, the image will appear.
Tip: the yellow insert image icon only shows up when in a "Go Advanced" window or when quoting an existing message. If you use the quick reply box it's not shown there.
the guy that sold you the vehicle is pretty low. He probably deserves a country whipping (whupping down here in the south). I would just wrap the thing up and mail it back to him with a note saying he left this on the vehicle. Take the high road.
It might make you feel a bit better to know that isn't a piece of a storage rack. To me it looks like a length of slotted Kindorf channel, commonly used by electricians and plumbers to support various types of equipment. It is pretty strong stuff compared to storage rack material.
I don't know the op or the seller, but before you start pouring sugar anywhere, perhaps you should ask yourself "why didn't I get down in the snow and check the undercarriage before I wrote the check?"
It is a buy beware world we live in and the only place you can expect any sort of good will warantee is from the dealer on a brand new vehicle. These days with the shape our country is in, the new warantee is still a crap shoot and more often than not your paying to fix what was poorly designed/installed/maintained on your own dime.

Dont get me wrong I should have but I didnt It was outside and cold and Im a little too big to fit under her with out a lift or ramps or something to give me some belly room. I do know the man I bought it from and even considered him to be a friend so when he disclosed the front end problem and told me that otherwise it was in great shape I took his word for it.. That will never happen again though.
I still think I got a great deal on it $2000.00 for a Navi with good body good paint lots of options and only 60000 or so on a new Engine and Transmission..! I'll fix the front end and trailing arms no problem
