I got a 71 360 fresh rebuilt. the problem i am having is when i start it it runs fine for about 1 min then it will act like it has a miss in it and die. If you push on the gas pedal the engine misses untill it reaches the rpm you want. once the engine warms up it will run fine. also if you shut it off and try to restart it acts like it is flooded and takes a while to start.
The choke is not coming off like it should. Do this! Take off the air cleaner, cold engine, start it and as soon as it idles rough push the choke open with your finger. If the miss clears it is the choke. These are adjustable. What type of manifold heating are you using? Do you have a heat riser? Do you have warm air can for the incoming air supply?
I don't believe its the choke have tried that and it didn't do anything different. I have a performer intake with a 2" riser. The engine ran good before i had to rebuild it would start and run fine hot or cold
Try to find a vacuum leak using a hand held propane torch (unlit). Spray propane around the base of the carb and along the air hoses and fittings. Since the engine runs fine warm but is hard to start warm and starts fine cold but quickly begins to miss, I believe the problem is in the air fuel business. Usually the sympytoms you describe are choke related.
The reason ratsmoker is asking what color the new plugs are is to determine if the problem is being too rich or too lean. It's best done on new plugs. I know they were white when they went in but what color are they now?
pulled the number one plug and it look liked it was way to rich i also checked the timming it was running about 8 btc ran it up to about 12 btc runns alot better. hooked the vaccum advance up and at idle it is about 18 to 20. starts alot easier to. It was warm here today started the truck and it ran just fine from cold to operating temp
