It's possible the cord has gone open. Ohm it out.

The element resistance is about 15 ohms.

Heres my story; brand new to me Ex, cut the cord from the factory spot still had the cover on it. noticed it did not seem to make much of a difference. The company I work for has the plugs with the light on them. noticed when I plugged it in it was not solid green, gave it a wiggle and it kicked solid green. Went to NAPPA and bought a tester for 20 bucks. figured out quickly one of the wires was broken inside the jacketing which still looked brand new. Cut it at the brake and replaced with a heavy duty plug from the hardware store. 4 bucks Good as new.

By the way today I drove away with it still plugged in and it was strong as the Ex itself and pulled out from the plug nicely. I would check the wire first before anything else mine was an invisible break. probably broken by a robot in the factory lol

If you do have to pull it out, make sure you have a oil pan or something to catch the antifreeze. Got a pretty hot bath when I pulled mine...

I would also check the connection at the block before replacing the heater. A stray dog chewed the end of of mine and pulled it loose from the block. It only took a few minutes to fix, but mine had been working before the dog got hold of it.

The cord is actually removable from the block heater. Just bend the keeper tabs on the washer and unplug from the block heater. OHM out the block heater and make sure it has 15 Ohms of resistance. A replacement cord is avail from FOMOCO, International, or maybe even your local junkyard.

My was just bad as well. Check the plug end at the bumper, one side of the cord on mine had broke due to all the flapping in the wind. Cut it a couple inches back and rewired...good to go.
