2002 7.3 Trans Problem. NEED HELP!
here is my thing. My dually has about 120,000 miles on it with the trans being redone at 105,000 right before I purchased the truck. So the truck has been working great for me for the last year. A few days ago on a trip to the mall i didn't seem to have over drive. but everything shifted great otherwise. No weird sounds. After leaving the mall I only could get the truck up to 15 mph. It was like my truck was in limp mode. There is no check engine light on, the OD light on the shifter isn't on indicating that the trans has a sensor problem or anything...
So I got the truck back home. I had talked to a few friends and one said they had a problem like mine (with a non ford truck) and the cause was their bullydog adjustable programmer. I have one as well. its the 3 stage 50, 75, 100hp twist ***. So I followed what they said I should do and I did a hard reset by disconnecting the batteries and leaving them off for a while. So I did that and left them off for about an hour. Went back home put the terminals back on, started the truck up and let it run for about half an hour till all my guages showed everything was up at running temp and then i test drove it up and down the road in front of my house for an hour. Worked Perfectly. Almost like there was never a problem. The next day I test drove it again after missing out on plowing this large snow storm we had. So I put my plow on and did my driveway and then drove across town and did my parents 800 foot drive way. Everything worked fine... then when I went to leave and head home i couldn't get over 20 mph... there was no bad sounds or anything... I drove about a mile down the road thinking i should drive it home, but instead decided to just return to my parents house and leave it there since the temp on the trans gauge in the dash was going up, but not yet to the yellow or red.
Any ideas what is going on? If it was a mechanical problem I would think that it would have prevented me from driving it for a few hours after reseting the computer.
Any help would be great. I'd love to skip going to a shop that charges me hundreds of dollars to tell me to do something as simple as remove the bully-dog programmer.
Thanks in advance. Snow plowing is my only income right now and I've already missed out on one chance to make over $1000 and Its supposed to snow again this weekend.
P0715: Imput/Transmision Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction
P0717: Imput/Turbine Speed Sensor no Signal.
I don't have much of a clue about these. Other then I had them, we reset the codes, took it for a drive and those are the same two that popped back up. so its for sure them.
Anyone shed some light on the topic for me?
Also, I'm from Michigan, Lake Orion to be exact. Its just north of Pontiac and South East of Flint. Anyone local have a shop they would tell me I should take it to? I don't want some hack messing with my work truck, and I don't want to take it to a stealership.....
Thanks guys

I'm confused about the 0717. Is it meaning that the wire to the sensor is bad maybe? or does that code come up because the other code is saying the sensor is bad and because the sensor is bad it can't complete the signal. Sorry i'm not an electric guy at all.
That can be bad wire, bad plug or bad sensor.
The most common is bad plug. Pull it out, spray with contact cleaner and replug.
Than you should clear the codes and recheck after some driving.
The TSS is on top of the trans, towards the front of the trans. It is a sensor very similar to the VSS. The code says that the electrical circuit is either open or shorted so that no signal is getting to the PCM.
It isn't too hard to get the sensor out. Once it is out check it for electrical continuity. If it is not an open circuit the problem is a damaged wire between the sensor and the PCM.
When I lived in SE lower Michigan I took my truck to Jake's Automotive. I went to the one in Troy, the manager was Jerry. He always took very good care of my truck. They also have a second shop, I haven't been to that one.
