Hi all. I'm looking through old receipts on my truck (I think i'm like the third owner) anyways i found one way back in 1994 (my truck's specs below). At that time it had 92,823 miles. Anyways it said that the engine light was flashing or on. The receipt continues to say that it was the code 32 (same code I have today). It says not to worry because 92% of fords on the road kick code 32 and worry if my idle changes or it begins to stall.
now how bad would my egr kill my gas mileage? i'm still in debate what to do about this whole egr thing.
also in past receiptes there were complaints about a noisy fan cluth (clutch fan?) its one way or another and i've noticed that too until my truck runs awhile. could that kill my mileage also? anyways just looking through stuff and am posting what i notice. thanks for any input from ya'll!
oh i just ran into this receipt. with 117K on my truck this guy spent like $1000 on parts/labor. well my egr valve would've been replaced at that time, my fuel injectors were flushed and gosh lotsa stuff. also something about o-rings replaced?
so how many times can an EGR valve go bad in a truck's lifetime? lol
How much does an EGR valve cost. My 150 gives a 32 code every now and then. I was thinking of just replacing it and be done with it. Doesn't look to be a big job, which means of course, that it'll take three days! LOL
I had code 32 in my 1994 and it ended up being a clock spring which cost about 160 bucks to get replaced. I did this only after my horn and cruise when out with a shorted wire in the steering column or somewhere near there.
Just because the definition of the code includes "EGR" doesn't mean there's ANYTHING WRONG with it. It means you need to DIAGNOSE the EGR control system, which is electrical and vacuum. The $12 Haynes manual tells how, and it probably won't cost you a dime to actually fix it.
