EBP SENSOR QUESTION

I have an 05 2wheel drive, i disconnected the ebp sensor and noticed a major difference in performance. I have no codes. The truck was running rough and bucking. Runs much smoother but noticed a little surge sometimes. my Question is this sensor bad or could it be another sensor ie icp sensor?

Have i stumped the forum. Is there a way to test these sensors with volt tester also what effects would i have with this unpluged

I don't know about testing the sensor, but have you checked the tube to see if it's clogged up?

Access the EBP, MAP, and Baro PIDS and compare them all at KOEO (should be the same).

Also:
1. Disconnect the EBP sensor and the PCM engine connector
2. Measure the resistance between the EBP sensor SIG rtn circuit pin A, harness side and the PCM connector pin 25 harness side

If less than 5 ohms, install a new EBP sensor

Also, (if the harness were long enough) you could remove the EBP sensor and install it in a tank and apply air pressure to the tank and see how/if it responds - just do NOT apply more than 10 psig to it. However, I do not think the harness is long enough. Maybe you could rig up a pipe w/ the valve on it for applying air ......

Can a sap on engine analizer give me these readings just rembered have a buddy thats got one. You guys have no idea how much help you provide. This is like therapy for 6.0 insanity we talk about it and then come up with a soluttion. Ah serenity now serenity now.

I meant snap on engine tester. If i disconnect the ebp sensor from harness how will this let me know if sensor is bad, not to be a wise guy but maybe im not following the instructions quite right. is the plug under the ficm that im suppose to disconnect?

ebp, map and baro should all read aprox 14.7 psi key on engine off. they should be no more then .5 psi key on engine off from each other.
yes snap on scanner should work just fine.

Not sure if im reading voltage correctly would appreciate any help. Would like to know why truck runs smoother with ebp disconnected.

for ebp map and baro do not look at voltage. you need to look at pressure. voltage in this case will not get you far.
icp sensor reading is wrong. icp @ .18v is low should be close to .24v

I've been having some sparatic issues with my EBP sensor as well and have done a little research on this device. I found the following info on another forum. Can't verify any of the contents since I haven't had a chance to do any troubleshooting on mine yet but it seemed to come from a reliable source. Maybe cheezit can verify the accuracy of this info.

The EBP sensor's primary function is to measure exhaust back pressure so that the PCM can control the exhaust back pressure regulator when needed.

FAULT DETECTION MANAGEMENT
An EBP signal that is detected out of range high or low by the PCM will cause the engine to ignore the EBP signal and disable exhaust back pressure operation.

The NGS tool will display a fixed PID value of 43.5 PSI (300 kPa) for EBP when exhaust back pressure is in default.

After removing connector always check for damaged pins, corrosion, loose terminals, etc.
Connector Checks to Ground (B-)
(Check with Sensor Connector Disconnected and Ignition key off, all accessories off)
Test Points Spec. Comments
A to Grd. < 5 ohms Resistance to chassis grd. check w/key off, if > than 5 ohms harness is open -Signal Grd.
B to Grd. > 1000 ohms Resistance less than 1000 ohms indicates a short to ground. - VRef
C to Grd. > 1000 ohms Resistance less than 1000 ohms indicates a short to ground. - EBP signal

Connector Voltage Checks
(Check with sensor Connector Disconnected and Ignition Key On)
Test Points Spec. Comments
A to Grd. 0 - .25 volts If greater than .25 v signal ground is open or shorted to VRef or battery.
B to Grd. 5 ± .5 volts VRef check with key "ON," if voltage not in spec., see VRef circuit
C to Grd. 0 - .25 volts If greater than 0.25 volts, signal wire is shorted to VRef or battery.

Harness Resistance Checks
(Check with breakout box installed on engine harness only)
Test Points Spec. Comments
#91 to A < 5 ohms Resistance from sensor connector to 104 pin connector - Signal ground
#90 to B < 5 ohms Resistance from sensor connector to 104 pin connector - VRef
#30 to C < 5 ohms Resistance from sensor connector to 104 pin connector - EBP signal

Test Points Operational Voltage Checks
(+) #30 to (-) #91 (Check with breakout box installed in line with the PCM)
Voltage PSI KPAG Comments
.8-1.0 v 0 o Signal with key "ON" and engine OFF (Value dependent upon atmospheric pressure and altitude.)
.8-1.0 v 0 0 Normal warm idle signal.
1.19 v 14.8 10.0 Minimum signal expected at 2300 RPM with warm engine. (See EPR diagnostics)

Circuit Faults: Diagnostic Trouble Code Description
0472 = Signal voltage was less than .039 volts for more than 0.2 seconds.
0473 = Signal voltage was greater than 4.90 volts for more than 0.2 seconds.

well some of that is right.
ebp is liner.
the back pressure regulator is really a combination of the egr vlave and the vgt.
the fixed koeo value should be 14.7 pis +/- .5
if the default is setting an active code the pcm will go to a default value.

Thanks for the info. I went ahead and replaced both sensors and my performance greatly improved. Since it was mentioned the ebp works in conjunction with the egr valve and the vgt valve could one or both of these be giving me issues also? My egr system is blocked off but i think a bad egr valve could still have effect on performace if im correct. I also have 250k miles on the truck. Thanks again for any help.

CHEEZIT-BISMIC-M CHAN- ANYONE PLEASE HELP

I know this is an old thread but I am having Intermittent underboost problems and found this thread.

I have taken the EBP Sensor off and cleaned out. (tube was fairly clear a little soot inside the end of sensor blowed out and reinstalled after starting and verifying exhaust pressure coming through tube)

I have checked the nipple in the manifold for the MAP sensor and the hose for cracks, found none under pressure test.

At Key On Engine OFF I have these readings

Barometric Pressure..................... 31.3 PSI
Exhaust Back Pressure Absolute..... 14.6 PSI
Manifold Abolute Pressure............. 14.28 PSI

I read in this thread that these three should be close to 14.7 +/- .5 if my
Barometric Pressure is 31.3 do I have a BAD SENSOR?? And if Yes which ONE??

I am using an AUTOENGINUITY SCANNER.

Shure does look like a BAD BARO sensor

Baro sets the Baseline for the PCM so

ONLY 1 THING HERE are you shure BARO is reading in PSI could it be reading in KPA or whatever its exactly double the other ones so that makes me wonder
