Another V-8 vs. V-10 question

I'm looking at buying a Excursion.

Found these two in my area, Which is the better buy? In your opinion.

2000 XLT, 5.4L, 2wd, 80k miles, clean, Leather. for $6,000

2000 XLT, V-10, 4x4, 56k miles, clean, Leather, for $10,000

I don't need 4wd and I really don't tow anything ove 5k pounds.

Your thoughts?

If you can afford the extra $4K, you'll be happier with the V10 4x4. Remember, it costs more because it is worth more.

I have a 2000 5.4 V8 and pull a 4000# camper that when loaded down is near 6k#'s. While I love my truck, I just wish I had the V10 for towing instead. The V8 really has to work pretty hard to pull it'self AND a load like that.

If you will never need 4WD and never tow over 5K, save the money and get the 2WD.

If there is any chance you will need it, get the 4X4 V10, you won't regret it! Get the 2WD V8 and you probably will regret it.

as stated, if you don't tow and don't need the 4wd get the v8. the v10 you found tho has very very low miles and is probably worth the extra 4k imo.

I would rather have 4-wheel drive and never need it, then need it once and not have it.

Not really in the same catagory as the way my post was meant, but yeah, I agree.

See this currently active, very similar 5.4L vs 6.8L thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ml#post9993562

Scroll down to my post...actually, I'll just post it here.

You asked for opinions, so in my opinion, a V10 is your only option, short of going with a diesel.

I agree with Stewart...I would much rather have more truck than I need, than need more truck than I have...

The 4wd V10 is the best and safest bet for the long haul. Joe aka X_Hemi_Guy will school you on towing with the V10.

Stewart, yea I saw the other thread. I guess I'm just feeling a little sarcastic.

I bought the V-10 Ex. a couple of years ago. The wife took it away from me lol, so I bought the 2001 7.3(like new cosmetically) Ex. with 110,000 miles for a song with a broken flex plate from a friend. A few dollars and a few hours and its like new. I have to admit I like them both.

correction: The 2000 V-10 truck is a two wheel drive not a 4wd

I'd still go with the V-10. Less miles and more power. Are those prices firm? Nit pick the "problems" and offer 9,000.

I'd go with the V-10, but as mentioned, try to get the price down a little more.
