Black Beauty is a brand name for a coal slag product. Comes in 50 lb bags. I've heard that Menards sells it, but haven't checked into that. I bought a pallet at the source years ago and am still working off of it. It comes in fine and courser grades. I use it in the blast cabinet and use a respirator to avoid breathing the dust that unavoidably escapes. If you are using it outside I'd also suggest a mask and hood. Stu

Is that rust converter good stuff? I mean if it is can you just sand all the loose rust off and then spray the whole thing or is it to costly coverage wise? I've never used it but saw it done and heard of others using it.

I've used the Eastwood products to remove rust.
Works very well. I put all my small rusty items in a little plastic bucket
and soak them over night. Rinse and you can prime/paint / zinc whatever you want to finish them.

The POR15 rust treatment works well too, have used that on frame / floors/trunk of some projects.

You can also use an white vinegar I believe.
Hot Rod Mag or Hot Rodding did a comparison of 4 or 5 products
last year or so.

Good luck!

Heated evaporust works good using a small water based parts washer and a portable stove eye using a plastic catch barrier to collect the runoff fixed so it will drain back into the parts washer and be repumped to the area

I have always used a 4-1/2" grinder and a wire wheel to get the rust off the frame. Man does it work fast!

A few years ago AxRacer told us a story about a wire wheel and (his brother?). If you need the story, send him a message I am sure he will fill you in. So if you do go this route I will advise you to double on on face saftey, glasses AND a full face mask (I use an old welding helmet with the dark glass replaced with clear). In addition, I always wear my welding jacket and my elboe length leather welding goves when I am wire wheeling. A safer route might be to use the nylon wire wheels? I have never used them though.

with some safety and an inexpensive grinder and a few (3-4) wire wheels you can most likely get the frame stripped in 20-30 min.

I just did the front of my f100's frame and it took me 5-10 min before it was clean enough to drop rust encapsulator on it.

Yeah, I use Rust Reformer after wire wheeling and cleaning the frame. I figure that there will always be pockets of rust that can bubble back up if not neutralized or the frame ground to bare metal.
When the reformer is put on, it goes on black and dries a dull white in areas. After the Reformer, I use a primer and then a top coat of the color of your choice.
