Hello, I have a question please. I’m about to order a new Ford truck. I’m getting a F-450 diesel engine, long bed, dual wheel 4x4 in the Lariat F-X series. Along with my truck is the rear view camera when backing up. This is such a great idea. Only problem is that I’m also getting an Arctic Fox 1150 slide in camper too. So the camera well be no longer in use once the tail gate is removed and the camper put on. Is there a way to attach the camera to the back of the camper so I still can use it? Or perhaps keeping the camera on the tailgate and getting a separate camera to plug into the wiring when the tailgate is not in use??
Interesting question, you might call Ford's 800 customer service number and ask.
On my 2011 F150, since it does not have Navigation, the camera view appears on the left hand side of the inside rear view mirror.
Thanks NumberDummy,
I did talk to Ford Customer service and got a hold of someone that they didn't have an answer for me, which I thought was strange. Any way I was hoping that posting my question here that I might be talking to a Ford Rep that knew what I was talking about. Rather then give me an answer that came from some sort of booklet with answers???
I had that rear view camera that had the display in the rear view mirror. Was just too small for me to see, I like looking at it through the Nav. system.
Thanks again,
Tom
I have the same problem with my tailgate salter. I believe the solution is to purchase an aftermarket camera, like this one Rydeen Mini-cam -- Rydeen, mount it where you want and plug it into the original wiring harness after unplugging the oringinal. You have to unplug the oringinal camera in order to take the tailgate off anyway. They have wireless systems too. But if you are ordering a truck, I would utilize, it. I would think camper mfg's would have incorporated the camera photo lens in the back and have wiring at the trailer tongue nowadays.
I have the same issue. I have a camper on all the time.
I removed the camera from the tailgate and drilled a small hole just above the license plate and mounted it there. You can't even really see it and it works great.
My 08 F150 Lariat has the reverse camera system installed, but somewhere along the way (previous owner?) the tailgate was replaced with a plain vanilla tailgate (no camera). The handle camera, mostly only available form the dealer, is MUCHO $$$. The Blue Oval is more readily available, but will it plug-and-play? I have a 6-pin (5-pins, single row) oval plug behind the spare tire. Is this the same as the plug for the Blue Oval camera? It's in exactly the right location for the camera harness coming out of the bottom of the tailgate. I'm certainly no stranger to cut-n-splice but opt for factory wiring when I can, especially where video/noise issues can arise.
