I wonder about those men and women sitting around with little heat in the cold of night & how difficult it must be trying to get a Sterno Lamp lit. Maybe an EV Humvee is the way to go ? Where to plug in comes next ? I just checked KYIV night temps and it will average low 20's at night for the next week, lowest is 13 ... Brrrr !
I used to know some folks that were part of scientific expeditions to Antarctica. First off, these people are crazy. Anyone that thinks, "I want to live and work on a 1,000 thick sheet of ice because it's just not challenging enough around here" is brain damaged.
That said, they have a 200 degree club. When the temperature gets to 100 below, they don their swim suits and enter the sauna/hot room that is about 100F. After a few minutes they step outside from +100F directly to -100F. Survival doesn't seem to be a prerequisite to joining the club, just participating.
I've thought about this rather often over the years. I have no interest in playing that game and truly wonder what moves people to try such craziness. The shock to your body is tremendous and without some kind of filter you can't even inhale at 100 below.
kinda the same with the polar bear club Ken.
15 degrees out, and dive into 25 degree ice water wearing nothing but a bathing suit.
i may be dumb, but i ain't stupid!
I found out recently, if you can make your forearms very warm you won't freeze your fingers right off doing that ! ..
You know I get goose bumpers getting into from the PJ's to the hot shower !....
