Limited Slip Diff.
Limited Slip Diff.
Hey guys, I have a 1990 4x4 ranger. And i was just wondering if there is a limited slip differential that i could put in it. I dont know if ford made one or not for the rangers. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Longview, welcome to the site. Yes there are limited slip diffs that you can get for your Ranger. You may need to visit a 4x4 shop to help you identify which axles you have so that you can get the correct diff. Biggest things you need to know are the ring diameter, (either a 7.5" or 8.8"), and the axle spline count and axle length. Aftermarket makers offer limited slip and locker types for both sizes. Also, like it's been suggested, check to see if your differentials have the tags on them to help you identify them.
The tag may have been removed. Another way to check is to jack up the rear so both wheels are in the air. Rotate one wheel by hand while watching the other. If it turns the opposite direction, then there is no LS. If both wheels turn the same direction, then you do have a LS.
Well I did a similar check... i was driving around, shortly after buying it, and got on some ice, then i looked in the mirrors and noticed only the one tire spinning, and now its been bugging me ever since! My other truck has a LS, so this one is kind of annoying like that. I think this next weekend i might go to a wreckers and see if i can get a LS for a good price since i now know that they did make them for these trucks.

Yeah, same with my F250. Thats why it gets annoying driving this truck with so much ice still on the roads, haha. And of course we still have about another month of this weather up here, so id really like to swap it over...
