I got one head off and checked 3 of the 4 cylinders. And they all ready 4.362... is that good or what? Would I even need to rering the engine? Cause money saved from reringing is more for me to use for a cam and intake.
You need to measure them in .0001" to be sure where you are at. You will need to know how much taper is in them and how much out of round they are as well. If you have around .002" of taper and around ,001" of out of round, try getting them honed with a fixed hone and see where they clean up. Don't bother with a spring loaded or berry hone, they just follow whats there and actually do more damage than good. I have found that when skirt clearance gets out to around .004" or more with a stock cast piston you are probably going to hear the pistons rattle at a specific rpm, usually when you've leveled your speed off and are just cruising along a flat stretch of road they will rattle some. If you do try it with a lot of clearance by all means get gapable rings because the stock standard bore replacement rings gaps will be way too large causing blow by, power loss and oil consumption. You are trying to save money so just buy a set of .020 over rings and cut them down to fit. The .020 rings are a lot cheaper than gapable std. rings and will work, I've done it a few times in the past.
