Hey does anyone know if there is supposed to be a gasket between the turbo and the up pipe. Mine has a bad leak there that I can't stop. Anyone know? Thanks.
No gasket in there but you have to have the two seated perfectly or darn close so the V-band clamp can hold them together well enough for them to seal. I found it was easier if I loosened the 4 bolts holding my up pipes to the y-pipe then clamped the turbo and y-pipe and up-pipe together.
1- Your Y-pipe might be cracked.
2- Have you checked your CAC boots.
I just found a small leak that I was chasing since I put in mt Powermax in the fall.
3- The 4 rear bolts on my exhaust manifolds were loose.
A lot of people have a problem getting the y-pipe to seal to the turbo, me included. Loosen the 3 turbo bolts, and pull the y-pipe in with one had HARD while tightening the clamp with the other hand. An electric impact works great. Don't rely on the clamp to pull it into place. It's a trial and error thing, but you will get it. A good way to check to see if you've got it is to disconnect the glow plug module (so the engine won't start) and have an assistant crank the engine over (cold) while you watch for smoke.
Hey this is what i have found, the pipe has got to fit in the turbo perfectly if it is off any it will leak. Mine was off 3/32 and leaked took me two hours one time to fig out how to move it , i did it popped in know problem. You also may have cracks in your Y pipe. When i finish my coffee there is a brand new Y pipe sitting on my workbench i am going to install this morining , mine was cracked in two places
