94 7.3 had steering colum replaced

I had my steering columm replaced and it won't shift right. 1ST AND SECOND WORK FINE but drive only works up to 10 miles per hour then seems like it is slipping or not in gear at all. When shifted into drive from a dead stop it engages but doesn't get into second. I have replaced the TPS and the speed sensor on the pig and the safety nuetral switch. The TPS reads anywhere rom 2.00 - 5.00 and seems like the voltage is running constant so I can't get it down to 1.0 or anything close PLEASE HELP

i seem to remember when i was replacing my tps i played around with the idle voltage for some time to get it to run closer to what i like,
when i set it to 2.0v or so at idle i had to bring the engine up to redline before it would shift into second.
if your sensor wont go below 2v you'll probably want a new one. mines a cheepy autozone one, i cant get it below 1.1v and its held up so far but i guess i wanted a bit firmer of a shift so 1.1 is ok to me.
i'd start with a new tps and go from there.

You don't want to drive it with that light flashing. When that light is flashing your tranny is in limp mode. Either drive it VERY SLOWLY to the nearest tranny shop or rent a computer from oriely's. It should plug in under the hood on the drivers side fender next to the hood spring. Get the codes and look them up in a Chilton or like book and that will tell you what is wrong. I know the tranny shop i go to will hook it up for free and tell you exactly what the codes are and what they mean. If you keep driving or hitting the red trying to get it to shift you will do damage what will cause for a very expensive rebuild.

Thanks. I had this rebuilt under a year ago and the light always has blinked and shifted decent and started hard shifting and then stopped..there has never been much consistency to the shifting

i would just have them hook there computer up to it. I bet it is something very simple like a VSS. It is very possible that you got a bad tps out of the box also, quality control these days does not seem to exist.

Hey kevin sorry it took so long to get back had a long day. Anyway the VSS is the vehicle speed sensor it is located on the top of the rear diff. Price $15 There is a tach sensor on the drivers side of the injection pump that is a 1" nut with two wires coming out. From what i have read many times those wires will short out so check those. Price about $80 and dealer only part. There is also a fipl sensor. I do not know anything about this but do not think it is expensive. There are so many different things that cause that light to come on that you could spend hundreds replacing sensors and what not trying to track it down. it is best to have it scaned and then you will know exactly what the problem is. If your clutches are slipping that will also cause the light to come and then it is too late the damage is already done and the only fix then is rebuild or replace
