tortion bar.....?

Was working on the truck today. Took out the 1500 lb. helper springs in the back, and noticed the back end sits rather low. So I decided to attempt to lower the front end by backing out the 1/2" bolts where the cross member is that the tortion bars go into. I successfully backed out the passenger side enough to make it fairly fees-able looking. When I was in the process of backing out the driver side bolt, the bolt broke in half.....

Is there any concern I should be having here? I don't want to be driving one day and that side of the tortion bar just break, or drop out and I end up doing some severe damage to the truck, or get in an accident.

if you snapped the head off the bolt and the shank is rusted in the hole pushing on the torsion bar end cam... you dont have a problem. THe bolt aint going anywhere. Only problem is the left and right side should be set similar so the truck is level.

yea it sits a little low on the drive side. I'm gonna go back under and try to adjust it as best as possible. The shank didnt come out, it's still up in there on the cam. Just the head of the bolt and about 3 threads broke off.

Any time you adjust the torsion bars you should jack the weight of the truck off of the bars first and then make the adjustment. Let the truck down and bounce the front end to settle the suspension and check where you are at. If it needs further adjustment repeat the process.

I did have the weight off the truck, it was up on a hoist. The previous owner has raised it before from when the helper springs were in the back without any problems. But I guess I got the short end of the stick this time around.
