Well, I called Edge, that was interesting! I expalined the whole thing and the guy came back and said that is was a voltage issue because the programmers use alot of voltage. I asked him if he really thought the programmer could drain two 800CCA batteries in the first download.
There offer was to send me another programmer and a seperate programer to restore my original setting before I retry to program it. No guarantee this will work but if not they will help me if it does not.
They finally agreed to just give me my money back. This particular guy as not very knowledgable.
Pulled the ECM and it is on its way to DPTuners. I am still going the program route becuse I dont want anything fancy I just want stock settings bumped up a bit for better economy and pulling power.
Well, as Edge put it, I got the one in a thousand truck that has all kinds of issues. $520.00 later it is all back stock but at least running. Beware of any of these programmers on the older trucks they can and will completely wipe out a PCM not just the flashing, they can destroy it! Edge did agree to refund me for the cost of the programmer. Chips are the way to go but even they have issues.
Recap:
1)Tried to install Edge Evolution Program and it locked up and then would not return to stock.
2) Pulled PCM and sent to DP Tuners and go it it re-flashed,(air freight both ways $120.00) truck started and immdeiently stalled. Jody tells me the PCM is bad.
3) Buy a re-man PCM and stock flash,($400.00) hook wires up truck starts and runs ok. Re-install computer in truck. Start truck, in 5 minutes, check engine light comes on. Code for low volatage circut at TPS.
4) Borrow a used TPS from a freiend and still have the light. Pull HIS PCM ( his idea) hook up wires and truck starts and runs fine.
5) Send Re-man PCM back and get replacement, truck now OK, but stock.
Jody did tell me that he would re-flash another PCM for me so I can send one down to him but I am going to find a used on and hook it up to make sure it is good and send that so as not to void the warranty on the new one.
I needed the truck in a hurry which cost me the airfreights. I never dreamed I was starting such a mess last saturday night! After using it to move three cars, it runs pretty good stock, I am not sure it is worth the potential hassle to re-program a PCM for my original quest of better fuel mileage. I do notice a difference with the upgraded exhaust too.
