POWER STEERING

I'm not quite sure if this is the right place for this post, but I'll try it.I posted this earlier in the Van forum (no responce). I have a 1972 bread van (OLson Kurbmaster), its on a 72 ford chassis. Propane 300/6 power with auto trans. My question is the van has manual steering. I have a Ford FE power steering gear box and power steering pump.I bought these on Craigslist hoping they would fit my 69 F-250 but mine was a Bendix not Ford (not interchangeable). Would these work in a convert to this Van. What steering columb would work. How big of a project and what would I need to convert to power steering. Also the trans won't shift to 3rd when cold after it warms a bit its fine. Any ideas. THX Money Pit 69

i believe the vans are totally different, that Ford Box will work on your F250 if you change the steering shaft in your column, utilizing one out of a 69-72 truck with the Ford gear, or shortening your shaft.

dont know about vans, but i did this conversion to my truck and the way the box bolts to the frame is the same. i put a shorter newer steering column. you can cut it and shorten but its alot of work and requires equipment i didnt have.
be extremely careful if you get your gearbox from a cheap chain parts store.
they reseal them and repaint them but the gears inside will still be worn and loose as a goose!
the problem i have now is neither a1 cardone nor autozone will give me a refund,
they are only willing to exchange it for another piece of crap. talk about bad business!
i have been in contact with redheadsteering as the wise forefathers here have suggested,
but the price is so astronomically expensive the project is on hold until the money can be set aside.
i already blew my wad on a grille which was painful enough.

fyi, there is a sister site pertaining to f100's and it has a complete article about converting.
i wont mention the name because it is on the dirty word list, and the owner will give me an infraction.

Thx Dave I know your money pain, after finding out the gearbox I bought on craigslist would not fit. I finally went to Red Head and had them rebuild my orginal box off my truck. The cost was about 485.00 but its excellent. Now I have this ford box and power steering pump I'm trying to use someplace. I was hoping it would work on the Bread Van Money Pit 69
