these tracks are worn in the rock from wagon trains, pic taken on the fort rock ranch. there was a military fort there before Arizona was a state to protect the wagon trains from Indian attacks.

the rotor wash stirs up so much dust that you can't see, the only thing you can do is land through it or try to fly out of it. flying out of it would have put him right over the emergency vehicles and all the people. landing through it is a crap shoot.
the dirt there was so dry and powdery that I was sinking in dust a couple inches just walking through it.
