No snow this week Chad, the freezing tempatures and tons of snow finally broke for a little while.. God gave some nice weather. High of 70-some today. It has been in the single digits at night and never breaching the freezing point in the day. I'm sick of it! Everyone is.
What kind of weather are you putting up with over your way?
Lol, thought it was going to warm up here. Was in the 50s all last week.
This morning I woke up and it was 25 degrees and 3 inches of snow... Hrm.... Guess we're not done yet, but it sure was fun to have a reason for 4WD again.
The small block sixes have huge HP potential because of what the Aussie did with it, and also fordsix.com, but those numbers 150HP 240TQ have to be pre 73 gross numbers. I think the 250 was rated at like 90HP in 1980. The gross numbers on the 300 were like 180HP and 285TQ. I would say the 170-250 would walk all over the 300 in the power department because there are more, and better go fast parts for them.
Usually low 20s* over nite and low to mid 40s* days, but there's a 3 ft sno pack still!
Gettin flooded (had 3 mid 40s* days). (Jack-a-Thread Chad here)
So - still @ a carb for this guy...
hp or tq - I'd say tq unless lots of hills/wind, no?. A large single barrel or the '2 stage' 2V, no? I need edju-ma-cated too!

Reason: Back to the thread @ hand
OK, so it's a T19 then?
Anyway, the motor is best in lower revs, no? I could B wrong but higher don't get tq or hp. Power band is 1500 - 2800 RPM w/this one. I got the 250/4.1 (300's lill' bro. It has 240 tq @ 1600, 155 hp @ 3600) another low rev/hi grunt I 6 engine.
Finally crawled under. T18. I don't think they used the T19 in these trucks at all. My understanding was that it was in the 80s diesels (6.9)
As far as revving, you are exactly right. I have learned from my experiences that "proper" gearing according to most puts these engines WAY above their power band. They just don't like to rev. I honestly feel that my 3.55/33s combo could be perfect for me. On my first truck, I regeared to 4.10s with 33s at everyones advice and ended up hating it. The engine was screaming at 65 with not much more to give.
The only downside to 3.55s and 33s is that you are limited to how slow first gear is. The good side is the even for towing, it is plenty slow.

So if U take yer foot off the gas how fast does it go in 'granny"?
We used to hay the fields round here alone w/1 (but all stock). U could jump out the driver's door, run back n throw a bale in, and the truck, pointed down hill even @ times & it wouldn't run away from ya. Jump back in n keep goin.
Ted's right. I re-geared my 300 to 4.11 to roll the 31 inch tires. For a daily driver, 3.55's would have been fine. I think even 3.73's would probably be OKAY even if they aren't ideal.

Probably 2 MPH. You can easily walk next to it. While it isn't as slow as with smaller tires, it is still quite slow.
Is it the ultimate tow rig combo? NO, but it makes a great overall compromise for driving a 4 spd truck. For semi-serious offroad, it might be a little high, but for a multi tool truck, I really like the setup.
a little high
Sounds great 4 both re: speed in granny -and- 33" for off/on rd. use. Neither would be "too high". The 3.55 seemed "too high" to me but your post has me reassessing that thought. I see it as a hwy gear (see my sig.). 300 has a wide power band tho.
For what I do, 1st is slow enough to easily start pulling what I need to pull. On the interstate, it keeps up with traffic. I don't have a tachometer and my speedo is broke but I run with the semis just because I don't like to be hard on stuff. However, whenever I want, I can easily step down on it and go sailing by the semis and go with the flow of traffic.
In my area, semis are usually going 65 and traffic is doing between 75 and 80
