I just purchased a used 2002 F250 SD Supercab 4X4 SB XLT. Keyless entry wasn't on the original window sticker. It is a manual with power door locks and windows. What is the best after market keyless entry system? Can you get just the Entry system and/or alarm without the Remote Starter?
Also I'm looking at buying a Lebra tonneau cover. The one with the rail frame and it is snappless. Does anyone have one and if so how do you like it and how does it compare to other products?
The Bulldog RKE/Starter from Sam's Club can be wired up without enabling the start system, and is only $50 when they stock it. I've put several on friends' vehicles. The $30/40 RKE from JCWhitney is what I have and it has worked fine for several years.
Has anyone added power locks to and older year model? I can do without power windows, but adding power locks would be nice.. coupled with remote start..
Would it be as simple as buying an A/M unit or could I rob the actuators/mechanisms out of a newer model?
Did the '88 even offer power locks? If so, I know the answer to my question..
Yes, power locks have been offered in F-Series since at least 1980, and yes, I've put PL/PW/RKE in my old truck. Check my signature link and look in the 83 Bronco album.
SO is the wiring already run thru the door panels for teh elcetric conversion or will this require additional skills? It would seem to me that the factory would install this in all models and complete only those which called for the switches, etc to be added. Guess I'll need to look for new door panels to to accomodate the switches and all..
No, the door harnesses have 2 pieces and then there's another harness that runs across the dash and sends power to the locks & windows. None of them are in a non-power truck, but all can easily be found at junkyards.
Guess I'll start calling the local junkyards. Sadly, there aren't many around here...Can you recommend a few to call nationally or in your neck of the woods?
You'll never find little chunks of wiring harness on the phone - they don't make enough money off them to pay a guy to go pull them, and they aren't careful enough with them to get them out whole. You have to do it yourself, and be prepared to spend some time & knuckle flesh.
