whats the best way to put windsheild and back glass in a dentside. i tried putting the seal in the cab then the windsheild, but i ruined my new seal by ripping it. any pics or suggestions would help while im waiting for a new seal to show up. thanks
best thing to do is put the windslied in the seal.. rap a small nylon cord in the groove of the seal start at the top center run the cord around the ends to the center bottom...coat the seal weith a little dish soap inside the lip...have a buddy press gentle on the windshield were your pulling the cord one side at a time working back and forth alternating sides.. you'll need to pull firmly and towards the center of the windsheild...thats how i do it... tried screw drivers and sticks always caused damage to sealmor window...

I never seem to have much luck with glass. I recently put a rear sliding window in my 78.I successfully removed the original solid window in one peice. After I got it out, I stood it up against the header board in the bed. Should be safe there for now.......Walked over to get a cup of coffee, heard a crash and went back to find it in about 3 million pieces........LOL. I did successfully get the slider in using the rope method though. Years ago, I was swapping cabs on my 77 1/2 Flareside. The new cab had a bad windshield so I was going to reuse my original. The gasket on my original was bad, so I just cut the gasket to get it out. No chance of breaking the windshield that way............. Got it out successfully. Leaned it up against the the front tire on the donor truck which I had already removed the front clip from. Went back to working on the cab swap. Out of the blue...........along comes a gust of wind............need I say more???? Just cheap insurance for me to take it into a glass shop......The glass gods don't like me!!!!!!
thats how i do all mine except if i buy new windshields, my glass guy does em for 175 installed and it even comes with the upper tint stripe...but used cost me 50 and install is basically free, transport from the wreckin yard home is the scary part...
thanks guys, i did put the seal around the back window first and used a weedeater string, but thought the thicker windshield seal would be easier to put in the cab first and work the window into it. WRONG, for me anyway. what about some tricks for the reveal trim? does it go whole way around the back glass, without corners like the front? where do i find the tool or better yet what company makes it? i think once the new seal comes in im gonna try one more time before i call a pro. thanks again
I've used the trick with a clothesline around the rear window seal a couple of times. Works great. BUT I had my windshield professionally done. It was obvious that the windshield takes more expertise than average. Pay the few bucks to have it done. How much is a new seal kit?
let a glass guy do it! i'm having mine put in this thursday for $85 and I know they've done more than i have so it "should" be done correctly. At least I won't have buy another gasket and windshield will be in.
got windows put in, 1 phone call and a pro was there the next afternoon. $50 with a used seal from a truck out back, and 3 more scratches on the cowl ouch. oh well they are in now and moving forward to next part of rebuild. thanks a lot guys
