I have an opportunity to purchase a 2008 F250 King Ranch for around 30k. The only drawback I have is that the truck has 100K miles one it. I have the option of getting a 2 year/24K miles warranty for a couple grand, though I am going to try to have that thrown in with the price of the truck. What do y'all think? Move foward or run?
Review the oasis report and the complete warranty history for this truck.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> get a print out from the dealer, with that in hand read the Tech folder on this site. Spend a couple of hours here looking through some of the topics listed here. If most of the documented concerns from this site have been addressed and the maintenance history looks like the truck has not been neglected - then pass on the warranty - warrantees are offered for one reason only - they are money makers for those who sell them. <o></o>
If they offer to throw it in - then you're paying too much for the truck.
Build date has some influence on the 08's build date will be on the oasis report - early build dates most of 07 builds have more issues than those that followed. Good luck - keep watching this site - there is a lot of good experience available here.
thanks for your speedy reply, I have heard about the oasis report but since I would be bjuying it from a dodge dealership I understand I will probably have to take the vin number to a ford dealership to obtain the report.
I think it’s a good idea to get to a Ford Dealer and introduce yourself to a Service writer - if you have a couple to choose from - use this as an interview process - find out if they are willing to review the report with you - this would be a good indication that they will provide s higher level of customer service.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
You will want to pay attention to all the fluids, Ford Gold coolant. Check the degas bottle, look at the radiator seams, down by the frame for rust. If so then need a new radiator.
Check oil level for evidence of over full.
Look at the tail pipes, should be clean to maybe a little grayish as you look into them.
the guy/gal that meets you in the service drive in.. they like to become your single point of contact, develop a singular relationship with you.. next time you come in they will shuffle you over to the same guy.
I hate it.. (personally).. I want the person that answers the phone to talk to me, not transfer me to Bob, or tell me Bob is at lunch call back, or Bob isn't working today call tomorrow, or whatever. My special person is 'Julie'.. no-one else will talk to me.
I love my 08 F350 DRW.. does everything I expect, and then some.. can't wait to find a reasonably priced 44/48ft gooseneck car trailer to get to tow two cars to shows.
I like to have the same person (service write) to talk to each time - <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> find out what flavor of coffee they drink and take it in next time you're there - they are alos the "buffer" between you and the tech who works on your truck - suck up to the service writer and you'll stand a better chance of getting the best tech and getting to talk to the tech when you call in to ask how the work is coming. Doesn’t hurt to suck up to the tech either.<o></o>
For what it is worth I would pass on the truck ONLY because I think you could get a better deal on a truck with less miles. I bought my 2009 CC FX4 Leather everything but nav and camera with 4,100 miles on it for $38,000. I bought it from a Ford dealer and it was certified used so I got 6yrs 100,000 miles on the motor instead of just 5 yrs and I got 6 yrs 100,000 miles on the powertrain including 4X4 system at no extra charge! Needless to say I also have a lot of 3 yr 36,000 miles warranty on it. Like I said just my 2 cents but I think you could find a better deal out there somewhere. Good luck.
Well it sounds like you got a heck of a deal. To be honest I have been looking since about october and this is really the only one that has caught my eye in my price range and that's includes back home in florida and up here in north carolina where I am stationed.

Sometimes you just know.
If you're feelin it then pull the trigger
You say it's in your price range and it caught your eye.
I'm a sucker for pretty guns and trucks and sometimes you just gotta pull the trigger on it.
There will always be someone that got a better deal than you, is better lookin, stronger, richer, whatever.
If it's right for you research it, then grab it and have a blast with it.
And thank you for serving this great country.
