I dont know the proper name for it, the trip computer in the over head consol doesnt work, any ideas?
Just fixed mine. There are several write ups on this subject. When you take it apart be carefull not to loose the little ( very little) pieces that make up the electronics. You'll have to soldier them or it back in and all is well. Mine fell out completely and could hardly see it. Someone will break in with the step by step proceeder. Its a piece of cake except for the soldering unless you have good eye,s, I had a friend do mine and it is as good as new.
I took mine out, studied it a while and decided my fat fingers and old eyes weren't up to the task. Found a guy on eBay somewhere in California that fixed it for 39.00. Just search "overhead console ford". Shipped it out and had it back in about 4 days ! Has worked like a champ for months. I usually fix everything on the truck myself but this micro soldering is beyond my abilities !! There was a guy on this board that fixes them but I can't remember his name. After I fixed mine he sent me a PM and said he did them too, oh well........

subscribing to this thread, my ovehead console is starting to get hard to read.
Rich, mine was hard to read for a while before it went out all together. I think the connections just get loose and make bad connections. Mine fell off all together, just had it soldered back in place and checked the rest to see if they were loose and its back to stock as far as being able to read. You mit want to take it off just to check if you can solder. They are hard to see, they are very little. Chet
I've got the same thing going with mine.....getting dim, sometimes it is off entirely, if I bang on the housing with my fist, it comes back on for a few trips......I imagine I'm dealing with the loose cips as well.
Who can I send this to? Ain't no way I can solder those chips back in without melting the damn board.....I'm like a blind man trying to screw when it comes to a solder gun......
I used a circuit board pen from radio shack because it was too hard to solder. It's a pen that writes in silver so it acts as glue and solder. Just put a dot on each end of the resistor and push the tiny little sob back in place.
