Trip #2 report.. 13 Scab STX 4x4 5.0

Just had the oil changed last week at 2600 miles (for peace of mind)..

Made a 540 mile trip..

Denver to Gunnison and Back, over monarch pass (10k ft +), also drove from Gunnison to Crested Butte and back and other around town trips.

Driving to Gunnison there was a strong head wind and cross wind, reverse for the way back, but much calmer. Temperature range from single digits to as high as 65 getting back to town.

Pleasantly surprised to see the computer read 20.8 MPG. Will hand calculate when I fill but didn't need to put gas in it today (its usually off by .5 in either direction). Speeds were between 60-70. Most of the way its a two lane road.

what gear ratio do you have if you don't mind me asking?

The reason i ask is if i were to get a new truck, not that i think it's going to happen any time soon, i would be going with the stx 4x4 5.0 as well. I currently have a 2010 STX 4x4 with the 4.6 2v with 3.73 gears. I like the simplicity of the stx package, nothing too fancy, but with a little bit of convenience. All thought i will miss the manual transfer case, as i believe it's not available in any of the trim levels now.

I have the 3.55 gearing..

i love the STX model, I like simplicity and when I drove the XLT I hated it, the dashboard and stereo was very distracting to me..

Great report. Thanks for sharing.

I've seen those mileage numbers out of my similarly equipped STX (5.0 w/3.55s and 4x4). Gotta try to keep the foot out of it on the highway, up around 75-85 I'm lucky to get 17-18MPG. Seems like the sweet spot is right where you had it at 60-70.

I completely agree on the simplicity of the STX, love mine for the same reasons.

Agreed.. On shorter trips I find it easier to go slower, but when you know you are going to be driving long, it gets harder, but this drive its a guaranteed speeding ticket most of the way if you go over..

I am interested to see how this develops as the engine breaks in and we switch to summer fuel, but I am already very happy and surprised with the mileage.

Our car can get up to 34-35 mpg in summer, but with winter fuel dips way down into the high 20's, would rather spend the extra $10 and drive the truck, its just more comfortable..

I have a 2013 STX 4x4 5.0, 201A convince package, with tow package, and I think it is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I love the way the doors open, the rear is like a suicide door. When you have both doors open just look at all the room from the side to get your stuff in or out. Granted I do not have any children, it's me, Irene, and Boo my dog. I have 6.5 bed with a narrow tool box from DEE ZEE, and still have room to put a riding mower in the back with tailgate down. I plan to keep this truck as long as I can, so I drive it respectfully. I live in the country, midway in N.C. close to the South Carolina border. We have rolling hills and stretches of flat roads. I average between 17 to 20 MPG at all times. I use 89 pure gas mixed with 93, it is readily available around here. If I get out on the big road 21 MPG.
