Limited slip?

<hr style="color: rgb(209, 209, 225); background-color: rgb(209, 209, 225);" size="1"> <table border="0" width="100%"> <tbody><tr> <td valign="top" width="100%"> I have a 89 f150 300 i6 4x4 with 3.55s. I switched from 3.08s to 3.55s. I wanted to say that the 3.08s were limited slip. My 3.55s are not. How much trouble would it be to make them limited slip? </td></tr></tbody></table>

The gear ratio has nothing to do with whether it's an LSD or not. It's the carrier that determines LSD. How did you change you gear ratio, did you have a shop do it or did you just swap the whole axle?

I swap the whole axle. I got it from an 89 bronco.

Then if you still have the old axle and it is limited slip, you can swap the carrier into your new axle. You'll have to check the backlash and mesh pattern, which you can learn how to do by searching the internet and youtube.

According to this chart: Ford Axle Code Chart .: Articles

Axle Code H8 is a 3.08 limited slip rear axle. The weight rating also matches the Code 18 listing so I would assume both are Ford 8.8" rear axles. Whether or not that applies to earlier or later models is another question?

If you still have the old diff look at the tag, if LS it will say 08L in the last digits, if not it will say 308, as long as you do the back lash right and the gears don't look chewed up or anything I wouldn't worry about it, in my 8.8 before 9in swap I put in a carrier from a bronco and never had a problem, I am surprised that the bronco didn't have LS
