I called a firestone dealer and you were right. Its cheaper than the Tire Rack.
They quoted me 171.99 / per tire and 14 / tire for valve stem etc. Same with free rotates.
Good to know as I will get through them.
Oh, also said the LT285 75 16R's shouldn't rub on stock - i.e. no front lift.....
discount tire direct had the lowest price for my BFG AT KO's a couple weeks back. They can usually give you a better price if you call up and ask for a $100 or $50 rebate, and they throw in stuff like lugs/valve stems for free. I got about $150 off my order just from asking if they would throw the stuff in for free, no arguements or questions the guy just said "sure." I was getting wheels with the tires as well so the order was about $1000, so that was definitely a factor but it's worth a shot if you're in no rush.
Tire Rack does have great prices until you add in the shipping price which is usually $25.00 per tire which will generally put right in the same price range as you should be able to get locally. The pluses, as I think you had just discovered, is that many local shops will offer mounts, dismounts, balancing, valve stem, and rotations, sometimes thrown in with the price.
Also, like a previous poster stated, do not go under a ten ply (load range E) especially if you haul anything. There is a huge difference in how our trucks handle, empty or loaded, between an 8 ply and a 10 ply.
I sold tires for 8 years and just about every person that I talked into going from 8 ply to 10 ply noticed a huge difference, and then thanked me for talking them into it. (I prided myself in being an honest salemen). The price was better for the lesser ply but not worth it for the weight of these engines.
good deal one dealer was 700 out door cus all we boughtten there over years other dealer said 220 per tire and couldnt get for 4 weeks i thought they were crazy
Yes to 10 ply and aware. Thanks.
As far as dealer vs, Tire Rack the prices are about the same for the actually tire. I have sales tax here 8.5% so its a wash regarding delivery vs. paying tax here. So that leaves me cost of install of $14 / tire which I would pay with either place I get through.
So whats left is the free rotate and such.... I think.
