Hey guys i was just wondering:
Im from south east texas and we got a good northern that didnt get us out of the 30's for a couple days... it seemed that in this time i was gettin worse fuel mileage and in the mornings, even though i plugged my truck in, the waste gate was opening/closing (i dont remember which it does when it is trying to heat it up then when you step on the brake pedal it quits) it was doing this while i was driving... is it supposed to do that?
It was low 20's and high teens in the mornings when it was doing that. Didnt do it in the afternoons in the 30's. Thanks for the input.
Not the wastegate, but the exhaust back pressure valve (EBPV). It closes to help warm the truck up, and yes it will decrease your mileage a bit since it is a restriction in the exhaust.

The worse fuel mileage is to be expected. I live in the Fort Worth area, where it got into the single digits a couple of times this last week, and mine has plummeted. Cold engines=bad mileage from what I understand. Mine also makes the same sound, and I have always assumed it was so you didn't rip your transmission apart by giving it too much boost when it's cold.
I know some of the sound you hear when you first start it is the EBPV being closed to help warm up the truck. Other than that, someone with a lot more experience will probably be by shortly to tell you the exact details.

im in kountze, about 30 miles north of beaumont and its been cold here.
iv been letting my truck warm up in the mornings and i can hear the ebv close and the rpm's go up. when i tap breaks it stops.
i think tonight or tomorow it may get in the 20's.
way to cold for me lol.
to cold for me to, pipes in the house froze after the electricity went out til 230 in the morning, then the heater broke the next night!! lol it was a fun week...
as for the truck, thanks for the input. i just wanted to make sure my truck wasnt being special again and causing me some problems again. lol thanks guys.
lol you texas guys are crazy. my sister lives down tehre and she said they closed the schools and stuff the day before you were suposto get that snow storm. '
up here in pa we have 20 degree nights and 30 degree days. i dont like it and neither does my truck.
20 degree nights? Hell, its been in the single digits quite a few nights. Your EBPV is doing its job like its supposed to. It will also do it while driving when you're light on the throttle and open up when you get on it. When its as cold as it has been lately, it takes a lot to get it to open and I can actually get my truck to whistle like a tea pot through the leak in the up pipes!
a pic of me in 60 deg. weather.lol
i dont like the cold one bit, i think thats one reason why i never moved out of texas.
iv been to colo, ark, okla, new-mex. all in the winter and liked all the snow,
but was glad to get back home.
iv been leaving my truck pluged in all night for the last few days
