(for some reason I couldn't get in to FTE the last couple days, hence my slow response)
Another repair shop near me called me for advice on it,(not my truck) and I told him that the FICM was bad, but I just wanted some assurance. Thanks again!
When fixing the FICM, do you need a special solder? What kind of solder should be used?
I am gonna attempt to redo my FICM saturday, and need the right weapons!
Or would I be better off (not that confident with electronics) buying the Swamps upgraded ficm for 800$ and getting the 350$ refund and only bein out 450$?
Yes, I saw that! I was thinking about running the Swamps Diesel 58volt FICM though. My thoughts are, the injectors were designed for 48 volts, and with the 58 volt upgrade you would never fall below 48volts. I am not sure what 10 extra volts would do (help/harm) to the injectors, but I suspect that it would make the injectors fire better and faster! So for only 225$ more than Ebay, I was thinkin it might be a worthwile upgrade!
LOL I totally hijacked this thread!
Ok I want the Swamps, but does anyone still think I might be better off takin a chance fixing this myself? What kinda solder would I need to use? I have till saturday to make up my mind!
(makes me wish I had stuck with my guts and got the V10. atleast I wouldnt be scared of working on it)
Sorry, can't help on the solder type, but your 6.0 is way better than the V10... IMHO.
I drive an 03 with over 200k on it and I wouldn't trade it for anything. If you do a search on this site in regards to the FICM you will find a very detailed repair description.
plgebbia; the fact that your ICP is showing 1700psi while cranking with your IPR at 52% seems a bit odd, have you tried unplugging the ICP to see if it starts then?
I have the instruction's already! I have also done searches, but some of these things have like 200 replies, and I am chasing an 18mnt old and feeding a 6mnth old, and cooking dinner! I just dont have time to read it all! lol I appreciate your insight though! The V10 thing, I wanted a V10, but the truck I liked had the diesel. A couple of my friends have V10's and change oil and add gas, never an 800$ part that ford shoulda fixed long before 2006. Sorry for my rant, but I absolutly need this truck to run, and crankin on it for 10 mins is gonna ruin the 250$ dollar batteries I just installed, and probably a couple injectors, causing plastic debt, and me to be without a vehicle for a couple days! I am sorry for my rant, and I truly appreciate help and suggestions, but I am a little heated now!
Mans gotta do what a mans gotta do. By the way, how many of your V10 friends will get 400k + miles out of their trucks, with out swapping engines?
I live in rust city, So you rarely see vehicles with 200,000, before the bodies fall off! And what it costs to keep a 6.0 runnin, you could buy a junkyard motor a yr! lol
Listen I love my engine, I just love it more when it runs correctly! lol
Back on to FICM, anybody, Solder?
Thank you! I am changing oil, fuel filters, and checking FICM saturday! I think if it is bad I will try and fix it! Nothin to lose but some OverTime! I printed the FICM how too's out, so I will see what happens!
