oil pan
Look up top in the sponsor section, their a sponsor here.
Has anyone ever nickel plated their pan? My plater said that was the best corrosion resistant process for steel. I'd guess it'd be about $100 based on plating I've had done. Do the pan and the valve covers and bling bling goes the engine compartment!
I too have a rusy pan but not leaking YET !! So what I did was sanded it down and used a black wheel on die grinder to get it as clean as I could without going through and then used 5717s Dupont medal condition then dupont 215 in a spray can before painting and it really slowed the rust down to where it hasn't come back YET. like they say " It is better to burn out because rust never sleeps" No matter what way you go just make sure it's sealed good so O2 and H2O and salt can't get to the metal. I seen somewhere online someone has a powder coated the pan. I still like chrome but only under my truck ( For the road kill to see themselves) I actually wax my diff cover it's chrome. And for what it is worth I am trying to get rid of all chrome on the top side of truck. I only have bumpers to go. But chrome does hold up good if it done right.
OH YEA ..nickel plated is SWEET !! Great idea. I think since I started iwth chrome under the truck. I'll look into nickel plated for the engine parts that rust. But was it the cost differents between chrome and nickel plated ?
plating...
FYI, 'chrome' plating is a three-step process, no matter what. Copper, then nickel, then chrome. Only because nickel doesn't wanna stick to steel, and chrome doesn't wanna stick to copper. Check out a bashed-up chrome bumper that still has a few flakes of chrome coming off: the backside of the flaks is copper-colored (although it could be brown from oxidation).
Any plating shop that tells you different, go somewhere else.
I'm not a huge fan of chrome, but I think that 'black chrome' stuff is really cool. I don't know how they do it though.

I have a 2003 F250 with a 7.3 with only 75k and my oil pan is flaking and it has a small pin hole just enough to re-wet after you wipe it down.Has anyone tried or thought of using an aluminum pan and who sells them. Thanks.
