v10 oil pan removal

Any one ever remove the oil pan from 99 and up F250 4x4 with a v10? What all did you have to do? The book calls for all but removing the trans to slide it back to remove the pan. I wander if the front cross member can be removed easier? Bust the rivits out then re bolt?

I'd go about it by sliding the tranny back then diconnecting the collectors of the headers and then the motor mounts then liftting it. I'd keep an eye on the feuls lines near the fire wall, the tranny cable, aswell as the go pedal cable, depending on why your pulling the oil pan you may have to remove portions of the intake to gain more height.

I was afraid of that. Might as well pull the engine then. I am removing it to check out the bearings for a knocking noise that appears to be coming from #1 cy. Noise lets up some when coil pack is disconnected so I figure it's either the bearing or wrist pin. Guess I'll just look for a used motor and go that route. Thanks

I just went through this with my 2000 Excursion. The book calls for 12-14 hours of labor to pull the pan. My mech had to pull the tranny back, lift the motor some and take the timing cover off ( was replacing the pump and also replaced the timing set up). Got it all back together ran it for 3 days and lost oil pressure again and spun bearings. Ford reman could be found at the dealerships for about $3300. That is what I put in. They said bearing job was just about as intailed and expensive as a new motor. Went through HOURS of internet searching: 3V V10 or diesel wont fit without a donor truck with the wiring harness, ECU, dash, etc, basically everything.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll go with a used engine. I found 2 locally for $800 - $1200. The one in the classifides is in California and I'm in Florida so that won't work. Thanks

Why is it necessary to slide the trans back? I have a terrible oil pan gasket leak on my 2000 V10 Ex and it looks like I'm going to have to R n' R it in my driveway.

you have to pull trans back because the cross braising that holding engine to frame is too close to oil pan and transmission so that's why the transmission has to be pulled away from the engine and engine also has to be lifted no way to get pan out without lifting engine away from cross braising
