can i install a ficm out of anotherr truck to confirm that it is the problem and to get me going till i get a new one or does it have to be programed to that specific truck for it to run ?
The "programming" folks mention lives in ECU. Check the
READ FIRST 6.0L Diesel...............Tech Folder................ post in this forum. Pretty much anything you need to know. There is a "4 screw" and "7 screw" FICM and I tried to find any reference to switching between the two on the same vehicle but didn't see any. It may not matter, but if they are both the same ur good to go.

I was broke down in podunk MISS and the truck wouldn't start. After the local diesel shop replaced the cam sensor and it still wouldn't start. I asked to look at the codes and told them it was the FICM. Luckily they had a 05-06 there that had oil cooler issuses and pulled it and replaced mine with it. Started right up and hasn't missed a bet so far KNOCK ON WOOD!
