I'm in the middle of pulling glow plugs to do the balloon test so I can determine which injector(s) bad. I need to replace the glow plug wiring harness anyway on the drivers side due to wire chaffing so I wasn't too worried about breaking off the glow plug wiring connectors. My dilemma is how to get the plastic connector off once it's been sheared off flush with the hole it goes into. I've got some ideas for tomorrow but thought I'd ask here first.
I was also wondering if any one had dimensions for the glow plug wire harness removal tool as I thought I'd make my own for the future. Thanks.
Without the correct tool I think it's probably next to impossible to pull the glow plug harness without breaking them. As mentioned in my first post my harness was bad anyway so I wasn't worried about breaking them but they're still hard to remove. Once broken the trick I used is as follows.
Drill a 1/16" hole in the center of the connector about 3/8" deep dead center with the cut off wire. Screw a 2" drywall or wood screw into the hole and then use a pry bar with a nail puller and pull the screw and connector out of the seat. Since my valve cover was off I was able to pry against the head this was fairly easily but with the valve cover on this removal method may be difficult.
There is a ring at the bottom of each connector. Wrap a piece of 16 gauge wire around the ring and then yank the wire with a pair of pliers. Hopefully that will get you what you need without the specific tool.
