Hello everyone. Just picked up a 2000 Ranger with 215xxx on it. 2.5L and a 5 speed.
When i was driving it home i noticed a hiccup. Like it cuts out for a split second then comes back to life... Seems to only do it under a light load, as when i'm cruising...
Also, when i was leaving the parts store I started it then it died and wouldn't restart. It took several tries before it would start again.
Any ideas?
I got stuff to do a tune-up, hoping that it helps... Plug wires kinda look OEM...
Here is link on MAP sensor cleaning procedure. I recommend it for general maintenance in case it hasn't been performed in awhile. Your symptom sounds like a spark plug misfire issue which replacement should hopefully correct.
And another thing, can i recalibrate my speedometer for a new tire size? The P.O. put slightly oversize tires on very recently so i'd like to adjust the speedo instead of replacing already new tires. I know theres a limit to the amount of times it can be changed (at least on my 93 F150).
They went from a factory 225/70-R15 to 235/70-R15. I think it's about 2% off now... (60mph=61.4mph)
Never dealt with speedo recalibrating so can't offer any input. If it were mine would leave it alone as it's such a small error. On the manifold probably should replace it for safety but after all those miles those studs/bolts probably would be a bear to get loose which is probably why it was never replaced prior.
Here is link for replacement exhaust manifold from ford. Pricey. Might be able to get aftermarket/junkyard (might not be any better than what have) but didn't see anything online when i did search.
I think as far as the manifold goes, i'm going to try either JB Weld, or the parts store muffler repair goop... I don't want to mess with it for fear of breaking a bolt off in the head...
Your Ford dealer or a speedometer shop can get you the correct gear to correct your speedo to go with the bigger tires altho I am inclined to agree with 03 Maz B23. Leave it as is.
