I have a 2000 X with 154,000 miles on it. Since it has gotten cold I've had issues with the X not always starting. It will turnover but not start. I've read on here about the IAC valve causing the problem and that I should clean/replace it. I took it off today and there was a lot of oily gunk on one side of the valve the other side was relatively clean. I cleaned it with carb cleaner and put it back on. So far it has worked ok today. The dealer I talked to today suggested that I try to eliminate the valve as the cause. He suggested that if it happens again slightly depress the accelerator and if it starts (do this several times)that would point to the IAC as the problem. Would it be better to just replace the valve and if so should I purchase the Motorcraft (expensive) part of just one I could buy at the auto parts store? I also noticed that if your looking at the throtle body from the front toward the back to the right side of the IAC is a caped off connection. Is this where the EGR valve is suppose to be? Thanks for the help.
