Well here is the story, a while back the X started stalling, so i narrowed it down to the IAC valve, so i cleaned it and no problem afterwards CEL went off and all was good. Then a week later boom it happens again so i spring for a new IAC valve, put it in today and no luck its still doing it like i didnt even do anything, so flood me with any ideas.
I left something out at the beggining, when it first started stalling and the cel came on i had the code p0720 (output speed sensor) so i replaced that with no luck, then reading some post thru here and talking with a few ppl it led me to belive it was the iac valve, with no luck its doing the same thing warm or cold my o\d light starts flashing and then rpm's drop then dead, but if i put it in park when i pull up to the lights then put in in gear when it goes green im good, still showing the code p0720.
Is the output speed sensor same as the vehicle speed sensor (VSS)?
im not sure but i believe that is different
Does it behave like a stick shift releasing the clutch not giving it gas and stalling?
no,if you leave it in gear and youre stopped to long it will sputter then die but if the o\d light starts blinking and i start accelerating after about 30secs the o\d light stops blinking

Mine did that once sitting in traffic, but my OD light did not blink. I restarted it and was fine. Didn't happen again. ???
VSS has to do with the cruise control. Is that working ok?
I just read a post that had the same code and problems you have. He changed his alternator and it fixed it. The alternator was creating a radio frequency interference and messing up the sensors. I know, it sounds far fetched but I read two separate posts from different forums, both saying the same thing. How old is your alt?
It is possible that a bad COP is causing all this misery. Open the hood at night and see if anything jumps out at you (spark). You might have a torque converter intermittantly locking up causeing the stall but it would not stall with the wheels off the ground or when it is in neutral. If the TC locks up when it is not supposed to the PCM might think the sensor is bad because the output shaft is turning when it is not supposed to.

not sure on how old it is, is this something i can get tested before buying the new one?
