hey guys,I have a 2006 f250. The other day i was driving and the left rear turn signal went out. I figured it was just a burnt bulb. Today i went to change the bulb, popped the new one it and it didn't work. Switched out the socket with the right side and the left still didn't work. Poked the wiring behind the socket and no power. I went to the steering column and poked the same wire (green and orange) coming from the harness to the switch and got power. So my question is.....does that mean i am losing power from the switch to the rear of the truck? or does it go somewhere else from the switch before it goes to the back of the truck. I have running lights and the front bulb works, just fast right now b/c of the rear being out....i just don't have brake light, turn signal/flasher on left rear. Sorry for the long post, trying to be as clear as i can be.....Thanks in advance!!!
Just to make sure; You found the same wire up front in the column, and when you probe it, it has power when you press the brake, and also has fast blinking power when the signal is turned to the left. if that's the case, then yes you have a problem with that wire from the firewall to the rear. I would first look at the rear bumper area. See if anyone has added a trailer plug of some kind.
yes, i probed the wire about an inch from the wiring harness that goes into the turn signal switch on the steering column. I had a reading on the meter when the brake was pressed and when i turned on the left turn signal. So you're saying that wire goes straight to the rear of the truck? There are no relays, fuses, or anything like that from that point back? Thanks again.
Here's a diagram for a 2005. The "multi-function switch" is the turnsignal switch. You can see the two wires leaving the bottom of the switch go to fuses, but they are only for the trailer tow option. The truck's rear lights do not go through the fuses, but go straight back to the rear lights.
ok, my next question was going to be if the trailer plugs would affect it at all. My 4 way plug seems to have some corrosion, but if you're saying that they are separate then i guess i have to follow the wires back from the switch. Am i understanding you correctly?
Is there power at the 4-way for the left turn light? From the sounds of it you are going to have to keep probing at different spots to see where you loose the power going to the back......

It depends. If your truck has the factory tow wiring, and your trailer plugs are connected to this wiring, then the trailer wiring would not affect the truck's lights.
If your truck has the tow wiring, but it was not used and the trailer plugs were connected to the truck's regular lighting wiring, then the trailer plugs and the wiring that was spliced can and usually is the problem(non-stock wiring). And of course if your truck did not have the trailer tow wiring, then they definitely connected to the regular truck lighting.
Problem found!!!! I found the wiring harness under the hood followed the wire about a foot down to where the shock mounts and cut into the heat wrap and there it was........my broken wire. I'm guessing it was rubbing on that bolt and cut through, although there was no cuts or anything in the heat wrap. It was just black in color which made me think it might have gotten burnt by the exhaust and that's why i picked there to cut the wrap. Maybe it was just a lucky guess. Thanks for all your help!!!!
