Hello,
I am confused here, I took my cowl vent apart from my 1950 ford f-47 canadian verson of the (f-1)a few months ago so i could spray evrything red and put a new gasket arround it but, i forget how it installs with reguards to the handle mechanisim. Does anybody have a shop manual that would scan a photo of the parts lay-out diagram for me?
Please help me
thanks sean conroy
I have not seen anything that explains the installation (though someone may know of one) but it is kinda like a chinese puzzle. I remember that once I finally got mine back in place I said "now how did I do that?" Ha!
Another tip -- don't lube the friction assembly, or you will be constantly reaching down to raise the vent back up. Better it squeaks and stays put than dropping down on every bump!

I will try tonight again thank you all for your reply
Searching for cowl vent screen for 50 F1 and saw this post. I have been doing some gathering up on an F1 my brother purchased and was searching for replacement screen. So, being the antagonist that I am, I have to say that the first thing I did when I got his truck in my shop was order a copy of the factory manual. the one I have for my 53 F100 has an excellent breakdown of cowl vent. The 48-50 manual has NOTHING.
I removed my cowl vent and over a year later I'm reinstalling it. I got it back in after a little time and words but now I can't find the bolt and nut to put slide and lever back together any help on where I can buy one? Thanks
Here’s the drawing I posted in the link mentioned above. The bolt is a simple bolt, the round nut is a little odd. I’ll check to see if I have an extra one.
I have to stand corrected. I just took a cowl vent assembly apart today. My drawing is missing the final nut. On the one I took apart today ther is a castle type lock nut threaded onto the end of the bolt. If I remember I’ll take a picture tomorrow.
