keyless entry key pad code
keyless entry key pad code
where can I find the key pad code on an 08 escape? I dont have the card in the glove box and I dont want to pay the dealer $100. it should be printed on the security module box. does any one know where to find it? On my f250 it was under the dash behind radio.
I know this is an old post but I have 3 + hours of internet searching and 2 hours of laying on front floorboard and like the original poster I have not located the "security control module" that should have the 5 digit number on it. Other internet articles say it is in forwrd end of console, this post says under the steering wheel- does under the steering wheel mean under the column and above one's shins? Can anyone offer some help?
Thanks- Oldstuff

A couple of screws and you'll know!
what size is it
Bill- Are you saying that you actually found the kepad module?
About what size was it? There is nothing larger than 1 inch by 1 inch on the bottom of my column after I removed the collar. I have read that the module was several inches square.
And did yours have the code on it?

Does the escape have a place in the back hatch area where the jack is located? It may be in there, that is where it is on the explorers.
If you take off the panel, and look back in there, the code is there for the explorers. It is worth a try.

Thanks for that suggestion Nutty, I did see that in a video on youtube abount Explorers. Actually the jack om the 2008 Escape is in the center of the cargo area and no wiring is in that area at all. However, on the right side there is an access panel that I will investigate.

brcman - if you said what year you have, I must have missed it.
For 2010, the big books say the keyless keypad functions are part of the SJB (Smart Junction Box), and that the keypad code can be read from a scan tool, and is also printed on the SJB label.
No hint on WHERE on the SJB this label is. I don't think I would want to remove all sorts of stuff to get down to the SJB, then find out everything needs to get unplugged from it to turn it over to see the label or something like that!
This was for 2010, I would expect 2009 - 2012 to be the same.
For a 2008, what they used would be a question, since the 2008 was the first year for the updated body, but still used the 2007-style powertrains. In 2009, the new powertrains were used. So what method would a 2008 use? An SJB inside the console like the later 2009? Or did they leave the 2007 method (whatever that was) in it for 2008? Don't know.
If I were to guess, I would guess they put the SJB in it 2008 as part of the interior and body redesign, but that's just a guess.

There have been several posts from owners looking for the code. Like this one, suggestions were given but nobody has ever responded as to wether or not they were able to find the code withouit going to a dealer and paying for them to read it.
still lookin'
Torky and others. This is a 2008 Escape. I spent about an hour looking again in the console area and if it is there it has to be aft of the relay/fuse assembly and I cannot see it with a flashlight & mirror- and after 36 years in the aircraft industry using a flashlight & mirror I feel it could ONLY be aft of the fuse assembly, assuming it is in the console.
I looked in the right side cargo area (since some of the Explorers' units are there) where there is a small removeable panel at the rear end and see nothing. I did not remove the whole right cargo panel due to limited time and uncertainty as to the type of fasteners securing the panel.
I am seeing several terms for the unit I am looking for and am assuming that "security junction box" and "security control module" are just two different names for the same unit that determines the keypad entry code?

The SJB is a whole module that has fuses, relays, power=handling semiconductors, a processor in it, and 7 or so cables to it. It controls exterior lighting, interior lighting, power windows, power door locks, remote keyless entry, TPMS, and probably other things they don't summarize. There are 50+ pages on it in the manual. The replacement of one requires a scan tool to upload the original SJB config to the scan tool, so it can be downloaded to the new SJB. If an original SJB could not be uploaded, then a factory configured one is installed and the user has to config it with the scan tool.
There is no mention in the SJB section as to where the label is. It isn't something real simple like a sticker on the back of the plastic cover to get access to the fuses on the SJB, is it? The one on the passenger side vertical side of the console.
