DRW Wheel Offset

Hi all,

I'm searching for DRW 5.35" offset (4x4) wheels, I have someone that has hundreds of wheels but will not look for numbers (scratch and clean), he also thinks Ford does not have different offsets ...

I figure if I give him an easy method he will do it ...

What I am asking for is for some of you that have DRW wheels and know what offset and wheel numbers you have if you could use a 16.625" long straight edge across the Outboard Bead Seat and measure to the hub flange. (Dish Depth)

Like so ...

I Just used a straight piece of 1"x2"x16.625" long laid across the Outboard Bead Seat, The measurement in the above image is 7.875 (7-7/8). (I do not know what the wheel number is, no way to remove the wheels currently)

Of course the actual offset can be calculated from there ...

The dish depth dimension, the known offset, the wheel number for all offsets would be sweet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

-Enjoy

I notice your wheels also use the lug nuts with the built-in washers. I was told some dually wheels use this method, and some use the acorn type lug nuts that fit down inside the rim like conventional rims. I don't know if this would make a difference in your wheel selection or not. We have a 89 f350 cab/chassis dump that has the washer type lug nuts. It also has a small hole in the rim that fits over a pin sticking out on the truck.

I will be going outside in about an hour or so. I have a 4wd F350 c-n-c i will measure and possibly give you a number off the wheel

That would be awesome ...

If you have loose wheels the back spacing would be nice as well ... measured from the hub surface to the Inboard Bead Seat.

With some assistance on number gathering I will fill out a nice clean clear readable chart like so ...

DEMO ..... SAMPLE DATA!
<table><tr><th bgcolor="#cccccc"><b>Offset</b></th><th></th><th bgcolor="#cccccc"><b>Backspace</b></th><th></th><th bgcolor="#cccccc"><b>Dish Depth</b></th><th></th><th bgcolor="#cccccc"><b>Wheel Numbers</b></th></tr><tr><td>5.35</td><td></td><td>-2.33</td><td></td><td>7.875</td><td></td><td>28371, 28512, 29316</td></tr></table>DEMO .....

For easy identification.

Useful thread for those on the look, And maybe some clarity ...
dually wheels - there are different offsets on those!!!

I think the dana 60's used the cone nuts and the 10.25's use the washers

The Dana 70 on my motorhome has the washer nuts also.

Sorry Festus can't measure mine anytime soon, camper is stored for winter. Next time I go to fire it up, I'll measure. I'm sure this will be a usefull thread for dually conversions in any forum!

bashby, can it be assumed that is a factory F350 2wd Dually with original wheels, thus should be 5.00" offset wheels ???

Thus the assumption could be made that 5.00" offset = 7 7/8 Dish depth ???

lot of assuming ...

Its a 2wd cab and chassis, so some things are different than a dually. I never knew of any different offset wheels but I'm kinda curious about this myself.

bashby, I suspect the C&C came with 5.00 offsets.

The Calculator says ... Offset = Backspace+Width/2 or Offset = Dishdepth+Thickness-Width/2
<table><tr><th bgcolor="#cccccc"><b>Offset</b></th><th></th><th bgcolor="#cccccc"><b>Backspace</b></th><th></th><th bgcolor="#cccccc"><b>Dish Depth</b></th><th></th><th bgcolor="#cccccc"><b>Wheel Numbers</b></th></tr><tr><td>5.00</td><td></td><td>2.00</td><td></td><td>7.875</td><td></td><td>28333, 28511, 25977</td></tr><tr><td>5.35</td><td></td><td>2.35</td><td></td><td>8.225</td><td></td><td>28371, 28512, 29316, 29578</td></tr></table>
I've added the wheel numbers I have came up with so far that I could determine the offset for.

Please point out errors or more info.

Festus, I'll get you measurements today when the daylight rolls in, I got the 4x4-specific (Firestone #28371) wheel hanging off my front bumper and the 2wd (Accuride and Firestone #28333) ones are on my rear axle.

By the way, the manufacturer and model number of the wheel will be stamped on the side facing you right now, so there's no need to remove the wheel from the axle to look for it. Of course, finding the numbers under that rust may prove to be challenging, but they will be right on that first (closer to you in the pic) rust ring, about an inch in from the bead you have the straight edge on...

The numbers are on the inside of the dish, Cool, I thought they were on the backside, If it wasn't so white out I'd go looksee for numbers. Thanks for pointing that out.

That would be awesome when you get a few and the white stuff lets up, it would be nice if you were to measure the backspace as well on your spare (28371) if you can get to the backside while on your spare carrier.

And just to be clear ... The backspace is measured from the hub surface to the Inboard Bead Seat not bead flange. (My straight edge in the image above is setting on the Outboard Bead Seat)

They are kinda rusty ... Second time I've had the wheel covers off, New England for ya!

Thanks

Okay, blew this yesterday, but remembered today - found a straight-edge with proper length, grabbed the tame measure, went to get some numbers for ya, and felt like an idiot - I totally forgot I got a chrome wheel simulator on there! One that's meant for a 2wd wheel, so it's not quite as deep as it should be to fit the 4x4 wheel properly, thus making it a royal pain to install So yeah, I ain't fighting that darn thing again, not unless I really must. Couldn't get you the measurements from the other side either, cause I have no space to slide a straight-edge in there... Whenever I take the spare wheel off next time for whatever reason, Ill take them measurements, but for now it's a no-go. Altho I do recall that last summer when I measured up the dish of the wheel I came up with nearly 8-1/4" meaning your 8.225" calculated is about right
