1/4 mile? I'm gonna guess yes, running against a v8 LUV and a chevy powered Jag, but I wanna make sure. 9 second 1/4 mile in a diesel truck ain't nothin to shake a stick at.

Sometimes you have to just shake your head and wonder who writes television commercials.

Scene: guy is driving his classic SS Camaro in the desert, when it overheats. He stops at a little store and buys a quart of Arrowhead water, drinks a little, pours the rest in his radiator. Problem solved, and he drives home.

Now, anyone old enough to be interested in their product, Viagra, is old enough to know this is complete BS.

It is a very nice Camaro.

It is a nice Camaro. But wasn't the point of him buying the bottled water so that he wouldn't have to pay the mechanic eyeing him up?

I did think it was funny though, the first time I saw it.

Yeah, maturity, skills, self reliance, all that stuff.

I'm pretty sure Steve does not run 9's in the 1/4. I assumed they run 1/8 mile. That seems to be the trend. Not sure why. Perhaps because of the limited top end on diesel trucks???

No, 1/8 mile. There's not too many diesel trucks that crack 9's in the quarter, and the ones that do aren't at all streetable.

I'm guessing those times will translate to around 14.2 or so in the 1/4....we'll see in a couple of weeks

The fastest Pro/Street trucks can get up around 140 MPH when they go through the traps. They can be set up with plenty of gear for a 1/4 mile track.

The NHRDA series is run on 1/4 mile tracks, but there are quite a few sanctioned races back East on 1/8 mile tracks . I'm sure there are a lot of factors at work, but space is probably #1.

As far as local tracks go, Fontana opens up every once in a while for test & tune, but that's the only 1/4 mile track around unless you want to drive up to Bakersfield. Qualcomm, Barona and Irwindale are all 1/8 mile, and within reasonable distance for a day trip.

What is your typical time in the 1/4"?

Oops, nevermind, I see you told us above.

I think we are going to head up to Big Bear in the morning, and see if we can participate in that traffic jam. I looked around town today for chains to fit these new size tires. Didn't find. So I just stuck the old set in that won't fit. I won't need to use them anyway, but they will want to see a set if there is a checkpoint.

So much for alternate routes.

Odd that once you get up there you don't need the chains.

So, I decided to go anyway. We left and headed for CA-18, and just as we got off the freeway we heard that 18 was completely closed, but that 38 was expected to remain open. That is only a few miles to the south, so we headed that way.

The snow started as we left Mentone, which is about 3,000'. Didn't take long before it was coming down pretty heavy. Just past the turn off for Forest Falls, we hit the chain-up area and Caltrans was checking. I guess I looked honest, because the guy petted Boey and waved us through without asking to see the chains. At this point, 4WD were not required to chain up.

Another 5 miles and traffic was stopped dead. Apparently a couple of cars had slid together, so we had about an hour wait while that was cleared. I let Boey out to run up and down the road and make friends. We eventually started moving again, and I don't think it was 500 feet before we were stopped again, because a bus had slid across the road. Altogether we sat there about 2 hours.

It wasn't long before everyone was out of their cars talking and playing with the snow and the dog.

We got to Big Bear about noon, and by then it was coming down heavy. They put the Chains - No Exceptions signs up, but the cops had plenty to do without worrying about us I guess. I certainly didn't need them on the plowed roads.

We made the loop out through Lucern Valley. A little snow falling there, but not sticking. Fun drive, and now I am beat.

Nice pics...the snow always looks so nice before it has a chance to get dirty from all the cars. I'll bet Boey made a lot of friends while you were waiting around. Did you go to The Village for lunch?

Just heard Conway Jr. say that it's snowing on I-5 in Burbank.

While you guys were having fun in the snow, I took advantage of it not raining for half an hour and washed my '74 F-250 Super-Cab I bought last night..
It still needs another good bath though.
