Yeah just start at the top and shovel down. Plus the snow piles are only about 3 feet below the roof at this point.. for the really steep and 3 story off the ground section my dad used a climbing harness, climbing rope and a tow strap and hooked it to a deck support post and threw it over the roof so he could just stand there and shovel and not worry about falling

what happened today is the entire state was shut down, and yes...the governer calls it and presses the go button for a mass email to all state employees.

Good morning Connecticut!
Brendon, The problem I've been seeing with that is that the snow acts as an insulating blanket and a sponge.
Heat from the attic will melt the bottom of the snow and it will run down.... to where the snow stops.
The edge of the snow cover will then freeze solid and the dam will start to form there.
NOW your ice dam is 3' up, right where the roll of Ice & Water Shield ends, and instead of leaking into your soffitt it is leaking into your house.

Believe me I know...
They are too light duty and the rubber fails.
The MicroSpikes OTOH, let me feel safe on wood or asphalt shingle, up to a 12 pitch.
Slate is a different story. The snow and ice you're on can let loose at any time.
Some roofers don't bother to put the snow guards in very securely.
I always use a ladder hook when climbing icy slate.
I'll try and get some better pictures today.
I was looking for the pics of the ice dams up above where the roof was raked, but I get so steamy shoveling the lens was fogged and nothing but a blur.

Good morning, think the wifes gonna go postal today lol, we haven't seen a mailman here i in exactly 1 week now. Our walks shoveled driveways plowed but none of our neighbors have done their walks and we're on route thats walk drive walk drive, I do feel bad for the guy tbh but they should service where they can easily drive and park.
