I have a switch right next to my ignition that says on off or goes up or down. for a few months i had it on off because the previous owner said to, but one day it would not start anyone know what the switch does or where i can reset it because my truck only works now when its switched on (which i never had to do before). and seems to make aq loud buzzing from near the middle rear of truck.
thanks i appreciate it i have my truck in shop getting the alternator fixed, prob going to get it back tomorrow so thanks for your help i will give it a shot
If it IS a homemade fuel pump relay switch, then that is why the truck only runs when the switch is ON;
Does it have the dual tanks (Longwheelbase)?
If so, try to find out what is wrong with the tank selector switch on the left hand side of the instrument cluster, beside the headlamp switch....
yes it is a dual tank and it has a switch which does make the change from front to rear and on the inside of my hood there is a sticker that says it was manufactured with that switch
Hmmm....Maybe a safety switch? Never heard of it, but I guess it's not unheard of......Now that is one more thing I will looking for when I buy another 87'-96 F-150...LOL
Sounds like a computer bypass switch that either grounds the fuel pump relay (if the computer is bad) or bypasses the fuel pump relay.
Either way not a good idea.
it basically looks like this after asking a few people i know it appears its not a manufacturer switch and it is in fact illegal for ford to put toggle switches on their trucks its a federal offense so i have to find out what it toggles and why it was added most likely to bypass a broken fuel pump or something fuel related because my truck cranks normally when its off but wont start like its not getting fuel
I recently purchased a 1991 Ford f-250, 4x4, x-cab, gas (460), with dual gas tanks. Previous owner warned me that rear tank always reads full on the gauge, regardless of how much is in the tank. I'd like to get this fixed, but not sure where to start. Is this an electrical problem? switch? fuse? relay? Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Thanks!
It is an open in the path from the gauge to the ground.
This path has to travel through the selector switch, a few plugs, the sender unit and then to ground.
A bad connection along the line or an open in the sender can cause this open.
