Mileage question
mine is a 74 with 30K on it an I was told if it would have rolled over the tenths number on the right side would be uneven an it is even its original miles. dont know how true it is though.
I know for a fact that mine was rolled over and the tenths column lines up just fine. Every truck is different. That's why I get a chuckle out of people that are worried about mileage on a 35 year old truck. Bottom line is mileage DOES NOT MATTER! Even a truck with 20K original miles will still need a ton of work if you start to drive it everyday. Sitting around is just as bad if not worse than if it was driven. Look at the shape the truck is in, how the engine and running gear sounds, if there's any major leaks, etc.
Stop getting hung up on miles. After 20 years, mileage just doesn't matter. Engines could've been replaced or rebuilt, lots of parts have been changed, heck, it may not even have the frame or body it came from the factory with. If it's good shape, drive it. When something breaks, fix it. That's how these old trucks work. ...or any old vehicle for that matter.
Just enjoy it.

For the most part, earthquake68 is right. At this point, it doesn't really matter. However, there are a few things you could look for to help you decide. Mileage is only one measure for the amount of use a truck has seen. Look for other things that indicate the amount of time someone has spent in the driver seat. At 57K, things like the floormats, carpet, or rubber liner should show some wear but not too bad. Same goes for the brake pedal. If your truck has manual brakes and the rubber pad is almost completely gone, it's more likely that those miles are 157K, .... or more. All these things are subjective and may be very difficult for you to judge unless you've assessed hundreds of vehicles.
The truth is, it can be really hard to tell after this many years.
