PCV Problem

Hi Ya'll
I have a 2003 V-10 vin "S", and I noticed I was using oil and I found that my PCV was sucking up oil into the Plemun..and ultimately I would get smokie starts if the truck sat for a few days,,otherwise this rig runs great, I added E-3/54 spark plugs and that help with performance and gas mileage,,has any one had or heard of this problem and is there a fix. I get conflicting info from the parts guys and Ford has no clue. Anybody?

I would only use Motorcraft plugs-read "Sad v10 owner" thread. I hope the heat range on your plugs is exactly right.

Did you try changing the PCV valve yet?

pvc problem

I have 45000 miles on it now,,the problem came up at about 32000 and I toolk it to Ford and they changed the PCV and hose assembly that connects to the throttle body,,loke the other posts I was using about 1 quart per 1000 miles and when it sat for a time I would get a plume of smoke,, that's when I checked the PCV and hose and it was oil soaked..

When my V10 did what yours did, it was fixed with a new PCV valve. Unfortunately the fix was short lived as the new valve failed shortly after the install. I replaced it again with a Motorcraft PCV and have had no problems in 10K miles. I know you said you used Motorcraft but it is possible the replacement was defective. It's the valve part of the PVC that would fail and then suck oil into the intake.

Talking pvc problem

I'm inclined to go with what you are saying,,although Ford replaced the PCV, it very well could go bad, I will replace it AGAIN, and see what happens. Can you tell me what part number you are using, mine currently is the EV233,, that's what the owner's manual says, maybe a different one would work,,thanks

I'd love to help with the part number but the part is on the truck. I'm recovering from open heart surgery so climbing into the engine compartment just isn't in the cards today. The PCV valve is pretty cheap so replacing it again shouldn't break the bank. I tested mine by sucking on both ends (after cleaning). The good one flowed air in one direction and not in the other. The bad one flowed air in both directions.

Wink pvc problem

I totally understand,,don't do it on my account,,I did the usual check,,with the engine running and put my finger on the end and i can hear the click as the spring loaded stopper is moving, but I also noticed that it doesn't totally close off the suction, so I will replace it,,thanks

I needed a PCV valve a few months ago. Replaced it with a Napa unit since Ford was closed. It works, but I don't think it will for every long. Sort of a generic part of questionable quality imo. My truck still uses some oil. Tail pipe is dark. No smoke and high idle issues like when the oem part failed though. I wonder if the new part isn't failing slowly? Next time I'm at Ford I'm going to get a new one and see if the oil consumption minimises.

pcv or plugs?

your problem mate is the peice of crap E-3 plugs.they are complete waste of money and if there were plugs out there that really put those kind's of results out that they claim you would see all the other plug Co, chasing that design.with that said get yourself some NGK's or like others motorcraft, denso makes a fairly decent plug but my personal is NGK..
I know 1st hand about those E-3 plugs they work really good for about 500 mile's then your vehicle will lose gas mlg and not start up as crisp and fast as it once did, where you really notice is that your gas mileage goes way down then you'r car starts to run crappy.
I know cuz I put these in my escape and they did good for a while then noticed my performance and throttle responce when't to the dog's!
pulled the plug's and low and beold they were cacked with crudd and I never had these issue's before changing my plugs.Go figure!
So my bet is to pull plugs and run a different set then see if that is your prob.I know plug changes on the v10 suck but thats better than replacing pistons!!! Cheers and good luck!!!

That is a typical heat-range issue.

Check the hose that goes into the motor on the opposite side, make sure the plastic piece that goes into the valve cover is glued together properly. Had the same problem with my V10 work truck, the plastic fitting wasn't glued all the way around. If it can draw outside air it will pull it through the motor and draw oil vapor past the PCV valve. I would change back to Motocraft or Autolite plugs.
