IRP removal tool

From what I understand I need to fab up a deepwell socket to remove my IRP. Are there other ways to remove it as I dont have access to a welder.
Does anyone make a special tool that isnt rediculously priced?

I replaced my ICP, and the surging went away, but there is still a slight flutter.
I know they can be rebuilt, but I'm just going to stick a new one in there and be done.
Thanks

I just used a 1/2" drive socket and a ratchet... I know some say it doesn't work, but it did for me. If I'm right, I didn't actually have the ratchet stuck all the way in the end of the socket, it was just enough to turn the socket. The socket was also not all the way on the flange of the IPR, it was just enough to grab it. You could actually do it with a 12-point box-end wrench I think, it's just really slow. But you don't even have to give it a complete turn to get it loose enough to screw it out with your fingers. I don't know if you can find them easily, but at my Dad's shop was a huge tub of plastic end-caps from the many pipes and things they'd bought that had threaded ends and holes to cap off and plug. I found a handful of different sizes that were as close to the size of the hole in the HPOP as I could guess and had them up there on the radiator support with me. As soon as I got the IPR out, I jammed a cap up the hole and made hardly any mess. I stuffed rags up under the hole before I got the IPR out and the rags caught almost all of the mess. Hope this helps!

Thank you, I will give the socket and 12 pt wrench a try.
Im glad to know I dont need a special tool.
It took me 6 stores to find a crows foot for the ICP......, and only one person I talked to has ever heard of one... Unbelievable....I thought they were pretty common tool.

Thanks for the heads up on the plug, I'll only loose one quart if I dont plug it right?

Oh, I wasn't worried about loosing oil, I didn't wanna make the mess! It was hard enough as it was to get my hand in there to get the IPR (I have a regulated return so it takes up space) plus, I had also just finished cleaning up my motor so I really didn't wanna have to try to clean it up again. It's almost impossible to get your hand under the pedestal to get it clean. I really didn't want the oil going down the back of my motor and I really didn't want it going up under my truck again. I had just gotten through a huge HPOP O-ring leak so, you can see why I was trying to eliminate the mess. For only a little trouble, it sure makes things alot nicer to work in, on, and around. Your choice... I'm a bit too picky for my own good.

My motor is dirty. I'll let the oil drain...maybe it will motivate me to do some much needed cleaning...
Thanks for your help.

I found a 1 1/8" deep well socket that would fit over the IPR, from Napa. It was about $20. Did the trick real well.

Just ran into the same thing with the crows foot for the ICP, amazing the looks you get. Then they tried to sell me the ones that have the little **** like a flare wrench & when I say that wouldn't work on the sensor you would have thought I was working on the dam space shuttle or something. I ended up with a set from Sears for $50 when all I needed was a 5/8" crow foot for 2 mins oh well at least now I have em. Kind of feeling like pulling an old dirt bag trick & returning em & get $$ back...lol

There is an extra deep well socket (either 29 mm or 1-1/8 inch will work) for suspension work that I found at O'Reilly's... worked perfect with my pivot head ratchet.

I ended up buying a set from O'Reillys for $20. like you said, they were just like a flare wrench....I didn't even notice it till I got home.......
I ground off the tips, and it worked. What a pain.

This works great, or did for me. It's a shower valve socket found at any hardware store.

Much cheaper, and it already has a hole in the end for putting the screwdriver. You can buy them in a set or by the piece.

I pumped the oil out of the HPOP before I changed mine and had very little oil come out. I had a couple rags under it and caught it all . No mess!!
