I have read threw all the posts and none of them answer what happens if only one hose to the heater core is hot? My heater used to work awesome last winter, then this winter just didnt throw it very warm air at all. Coolant is topped off, my vent blend door seems to be working. But i dont really hear a "door sound" when i switch from hot to cold. Suggestions?
And i did add some stop a leak addtitive, i hear these can plug up heater cores? Info and pics to my solution would be awesome. Its a 92 f150 with a 5.0 if it matters
Had the same problem, open the hood and on the top of the heater core, there will be an actuator hooked to it. Have someone get in your truck aNd switch it back and forth. If it dowsnt move, there's your problem. I'm guessing it gets hot when sitting but cools off when driving?
Well the external one is a door that controls wether it pulls air from outside, or recirculating inside air. Could be just pullin strait cold.
Also, to check for air in the system while running, your heater core is the highest point in your cooling system. Take the core hoses under the hood and undo the clamp, and crack them and if fluid flows out, there's no air there. Do not take them completely off! Do this on both individually. Sometimes if you do that, the air will escape and fill with fluid.
Keep me posted, I have many more diagnostics for that
I actually "bleed" the sure out by letting the radiator cap off and letting out warm up and a bunch of air escaped and it still did me no better. So I'm sure thats out. Could it just be my heater core is plugged?
If only one hose is hot, your heater core is clogged. You may be able to take both hoses off of it, and flush/backflush the core separately from the rest of the system.
Yeah the house nearest to the fender doesn't get hot at all. AND right by the heater core its feels like really filled up with gunk. All my other cooling houses can be classified as squishy and that particular house hear heater core isn't at all. can I switch heater votes without draining the system?
