I have a 1967 Ford F100. Just bought it a month ago & I replaced the battery, the alternator, & the voltage regulator. However, truck battery dies after a couple of days. What else could be draining my battery?
The procedural way to do this is to disconnect the ground and connect a trouble light between the battery and the ground. If it doesn't light then the battery is probably bad. If it does light then there is a draw. You can then begin troubleshooting by disconnecting individual components and checking to see if the light is still illuminated. Disconnect the voltage regulator, pull fuses, going thru one item at a time and checking the light to see if it's out. Going thru it one at a time you can find the item causing the draw.
I had the same problem on my '72. The test lite is a great way to fine a draw. But the problem I had was the fusible link on the solinoid was bad. it was the main power to the alt. it looked ok but was broken under the insulation. ck that with the test lite. Good luck!
I had to redo the wiring for the entre charging system. Souds like a lot of work but it's all under the hood and not to bad a job. There are posts on here regarding rewiring it. Possibly looking for rewiring voltage regulator would bring up some of the posts.
As for the Ranger question. Light bulbs in my opinion usually work or don't work. I rarely see bulbs just go dim. I would say a voltage issue or bad/loose ground or connection.
Also for the Ranger. There is a section dedicated to the Ford Ranger on the FTE boards. More people with the Ranger frequent that section. Your more apt to get a better response in that section to any Ranger related issue.
I had this same problem with my Ford RV, 2 800amp optima's would drain in just a couple days, after months of searching I discovered that the solenoid had developed a green film inside the case [ like you find on copper pipes]running from the brass terminal over the insulator to the case of the solenoid and was causing my battery drains, I replaced the solenoid and have not had a problem since,,, Hope this helps
I had a dim tail light some yrs ago pulled the lens found the gasket had just cracked into small pieces.Well had a hard time getting the bulb out, ended up braking the glass. Needed some w-40 to help get out. Ah the whole socket was corroded with a chalky white stuff. got all cleaned and the bulb contacts. Use the socket grease replaced the bulb and it was bright once again like new..Plus replaced the lens gaskets to keep out the moisture. The end of dim tail lights
