Has anyone ever replaced the electrical socket on the trailer hitch? Mine has a broken tab inside (I bought it like that), and last time I towed (2007) one of the light functions didn't work (stop or turn signals...I can't remember).
I went to the dealer, and they said it was $120 for a new one. I know I can buy one from the auto parts store, but I don't want to drill new holes or anything. I just want to bolt a new one in.
I had replaced mine with a Hoppy brand I bought from an auto parts store. They have one that fits the harness, but I had to turn it 90 degrees and drill mounting holes for the screws on the plate where the socket fits. Not a big deal to drill the holes.
What's cool about this aftermarket plug is that it also has the 4 pin as well. Now I have 2 sets of the 4 pin sockets. I could use the spare for...I don't know, other accessories I have not thought of yet.
Thanks everyone for the ideas. I like the plug that has the 4 pin as well. I bought one of those from Kragen (now O'Reilly here), and returned it because I had to drill holes. However, it would sure come in handy when towing a u-haul. I might go for that. (there is no urgent need. My wife's vehicle is a expedition, with the same hitch plug. I could always steal hers).
